View Full Version : Connect SMT 2110C Using Ethernet?

I have Broadband and Phone via cable. Now I have just been sent a Samsung SMT-2110C by Virgin. The problem is that my TV set is not in the same room as the cable socket.

Now, I already have the Virgin router connected up to a wireless router which allows me to connect up my Xbox to a Wireless Ethernet Bridge at the TV location.

Right! So here's the question: can I connect the Samsung to that Ethernet Bridge via the socket at its rear and receive TV?

No

BB and TV are different signals

You are going to have to talk to Quickstart and organise a Install Engineer to come out and wire the TV to where you want it. This will cost the standard install fee of £30

Quickstart installs (i.e. via courier) are only any use if you have the points in the room where you want the services

Ok, thanks for that.

Next question then: where can I get buy longer lengths of the 'Green End Co-ax' cable that Virgin include in 3 x 1.5 m lengths? It's labelled 'Tratec RLA75E Cenelec Class A Compliant', but Googling didn't reveal any sources.

I don't think you can. Maplin may be able to do it. It needs to be tri-shield co-ax (Apparently)

Does this (http://www.dvbjunkieuk.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=12) look like the right thing?

yup does actually. especially as it even says 'as used in VM installations' ;)

Though looks like you would have to put the F connectors on yourself with that.

Hi Bizarro,

I am having the same problem as of yours. I have moved into a new house, Virgin Media was already set up in the house. But i want to keep my tv in a different room and the cable socket is available in a different. I just want to check with you that which cables you bought. Did the one mentioned above worked for you??

I also need to buy the green end Tratec RLA75E co-axial cables but could not find on the internet.

Cheers,
P

lol... virgin no longer use rg59.. they only use rg6... but if you are doing a diy job. then this is far superior ( and damn impresive :) than normal tv coax

you may not have problems, now.. but the conectors will not last.. the crimp on one are far superior and so is the cable.. some techs may charge you if they get called out because of inferior diy jobs..I and most do not, but some do..

these are better than the ones on the newer bought rf leads, these are actually old type conectors we used, and do allow the centre core (stinger) to pass directly to the box, although good for indoor use they are not waterproof. we do have to change these when we come across them.. those are made in all sizes rg59 - 6 -7 and 11

they are not better than the rf conectors virgin now use

Hi P
No - sorry. Economic circumstances compelled me to stick with Freeview.

Same story for me but is the RG6 good for HD

virgin_tech

yeah its no different for HD, its the only thing virgin use now, far better than what looks like rg59 (not sure what it is) sky use from their dish to the box
