View Full Version : Extremly Slow Speeds Aprox 3pm

Aprox 3pm my speed went totally down hill, was just downloading a game from gamershell, then suddenly its going so slow, i've done speed tests etc etc and they all show the sameThu, 10 Jul 2008 14:08:37 UTC

Test 1: 1024K took 23292 ms = 44 KB/sec, approx 363 Kbps, 0.35 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 11047 ms = 92.7 KB/sec, approx 764 Kbps, 0.75 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 12843 ms = 79.7 KB/sec, approx 657 Kbps, 0.64 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 44639 ms = 45.9 KB/sec, approx 378 Kbps, 0.37 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 541 Kbps, 0.53 Mbps any idea? i havent really been home the past month, for them to limit my download at all...I'm on 10MB and i usually get 10mb untill now, such an annoying service they offer. and there 150 free phone number is so confusing lol.

any help anyone???

Virgin did same thing to me this afternoon at 2!
Spent an hour on phone & they say new terms :- http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html (scroll down to grey area)

Throttling duration 5hrs

Now from 3pm they will shape you if you upload too much.This will obviously include You tube streams etc.
Soon as BT sort my line im out of virgin! **** bags killed cable in UK.

Well theyve broken terms of service.As I stated, they reduced my speed at 2pm.But what can you do? Drop your service to a lower speed/Move to Dsl Or get a VPN tunnel like Relakks or Perfect Privacy.
Theyre damn criminals!

ah i see, there is no way in hell i have uploaded, or even downloaded anywhere near what is stated on that site, this is a crap service, made even crappy, they also stated its not to cut costs, of course it is, its because they cant afford to put the proper systems in place to beable to put up with everyone downloading/uploading argh this is annoying.

also my speed is back up to normal now, which concludes that it has nothing to do with that URL other wise i'd be waiting untill 9pm..

Same story here in Wirral since last week. Overloaded servers apparently. Their throttling is probably of some influence too..

Really? I'm in CH43 and have been consistently getting 1.5-2MB speeds even during peak time. I'm currently downloading from a UK server listed at Gamershell and getting 2MB.

Yeah, I find gamershell to have some of the best servers, but lately I haven't been getting more than 2-4Mb/s from them

i was downloading from gamershell aswell??? i think its something to do with this limit thing, the guy at ntl one who told me about this site http://speedtest.d04.net said stuff about downloading after 9pm as it wouldn't have restrictions...
