I have had Virgin/NTL cable for over 8 years and have always got a good service!

Speed tests from gamefiles, microsoft, nettest.virginm.net, and others are all saying 1.8/9Mb.

Not only that but I get about 4.3Mb for the first 10MB.

downloaded the test 100mb file managed it in under 1 minute at about 1500kbps speed Not too bad
speedtest says this
Overall Average Speed = approx 15214 Kbps, 14.86 Mbps
and http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/results.php?t=1215547526&v=4616266

so in all yeah i am happy

I've had NTL/VM BB for almost 5 years now and found it to be generally reliable and much more often than not i get the full speed. Sometimes during STM hours the service drags its feet a bit but i find it generally to be a good, reliable service.

sounds good, but Simon do you get better speeds at other times of the day because if your on 20Mb you should be able to hit 19Mb at times.

Day time no problem, 18-19mb. 7pm to 10pm lucky to get 4mb. So mixed feeling about VM BB.

Always get excellent service day or night from VM, I would never move to ADSL.

I have been a customer for around 14 years through different guises and never had any major problems with them.

If I have a fault which is rare its dealt with quickly and competantly.

Our area was cabled by 'Diamond Media', my internal faceplates & external swept T cover still have the logo.

It seems they did a good job - we started with a phone line, analogue TV & dial-up internet with the new Ntl & it did what it said on the tin.

We now still have the same cables as per the original installation & we still have the phone line.

The change has been to digital tv & broadband internet - and my personal experience as a user of XL on both, including the V+ box, has been very favourable, so far.

Ok hiccups have occurred from time to time, the stm regimen isn't ideal, etc, but I feel generally ok about getting a much better service than I originally started with :tu:

I get 4mb bb through the set top box, i am waiting for my free upgrade which i believe will not do full speed thru the stb but if it gets me to 6-8mb that'll do me. It is a pain the way it is connected because if the light on the stb flashes downstairs i need to reboot the box to get internet back on. All in all i have been very happy with ntl/vm :) Whether greed will get the better of me when i should be getting 10mb i'll have to wait and see. I only really surf and play one game online (counterstrike source) ping is usually in the low teens so great, but, this may change when all local upgrades go thru.

TV is a different question, not happy about not getting 'Red button' or TEXT but this is an internet question so, yes very pleased.

ive been with Virgin Media for over a year now, just into a 12 month contract and i couldnt be any more happier...memories with aol, bt and tiscali were horrific. Service is always stable and never loses connection apart from once every blue moon. But having said that I disagree with the new daytime stm policy and I dont like the fact that on 20mb we have a crap 756kb upload speed :( apart from that its all milk man...drink it lol

No complaints here. Been with VM for almost a year, started with 4mb now upgraded to 10mb free - Wish for a faster upload speed as do a lot of FTP updates to various websites. Never had any downtime so never had to call support. So far so good.

Right now even though I am back on ADSL it's working as it should be, quite happy.
But for the first 4 months it's been dire, still waiting on hearing why my settings had been set so low to start with. Apart from that....

Had cable from telewest/blueyonder from 512k all the way through to 20 meg. In 8 years I think it was off once for 15mins, superb service, all system maintenance was done during the early hours. Always constant Max speeds and superb pings.
Then.... Have mixed feelings over my experience in the past 18 months "cablewise". Once sorted speeds/pings went back to normal.

It's been top quality, we've had cable since the days of analogue from Cable and Wireless, over the years we've upgraded our services and now have the full VIP + Mobile package and couldn't be happier, we've always achieved the advertised download speed.

I've even signed up for VM at uni and so far so good!

ive been with VM since Feb 2006 and for the most part the service has been fine. I did have a lot of problems between Nov 2007 and March 2008 because of over utilization on the UBR which meant my connection was so slow it was unusable during the day sometimes.

10+ years ntl/vm starting with analogue TV then dial up internet added, through to VIP package (+ 300 mins/texts £10 mobile) these days. A few downs but mainly ups. (Suddenly voicemail went off last week and it took me four calls to get it reinstated). Issues over the years with Customer Sevices no worse than with Orange, O2, London Electricity and Severn Trent Water.

Never had phone problems (except as stated above), rarely had TV problems (except Video on Demand used to be reluctant to work) and broadband/email problems few and far between, generally these days getting a speed of 18Mb+.

Helped somebody else recently to order new service online and installation absolutely brilliant and billing spot on (though I have had the odd billing problem over the years).

Whenever there have been problems, I have phoned up politely, calmly, persistently and with the facts (ie latest offers) at my finger tips and have always negotiated satisfactory financial compensation.

To sum up, a very satisfied customer.

When it was telewest it was exceptional, since VM started, the service has gone from OK to at best abysmal, and the cost has increased.

When the 10Mb/s upgrade takes place you can ask for a Stand Alone Cable Modem you know.. It will sort you out no end;)

My internet service is perfect.

If I go onto the news group I consistently get my full speed of 20mb.

The speedtest sites always say it's much slower than that. So I can see why some people can think they aren't getting the service they pay for, even if they are. (I accept some people are subject to over crowding in their area though)

Now though, it's quite a different story, and I think it might something to do with the new bandwidth useage rules.

I have been using Diamond\NTL\VM cable for over 8 years. The service during this time has been exceptional, I have always got the speeds advertised the phone has always worked had one incident when an install didnt go right with STB and had no tv for 3 weeks I get what I pay for and I totally agree with STM.

All in all VM in all its guises has given me excellent service at a great price.

I dont work for VM.

I have been with NTL/Virgin for so long I forget when I started. I have found them to be reliable, and with the upgrades first to 4Mb and now 10Mb surprisingly good value. I don't really need 10Mb but it comes in handy at times. A number of outages but always explicable and rectified promptly. Don't get anywhere near the STM limits so it would seem to be affecting the "hogs" only.
