Sorry but have not posted much on these sites etc. But was wondering if my modem is not set to recieve the new 10Mbps service. I am in an area that has been upgraded, Southampton. I am not geting anywhere near this, only barely getting above 4Mbps. No peer 2 peer runnng, no viruses spyware etc.
Have gone to the 'Root site' and obtained these results:

Type : Ambit ETH/USB Combo Cable Modem

Downstream Receive Power Level : -0.53 dBmv

Cable Modem Status (http://192.168.100.1/P_status.htm)
Downstream Status (http://192.168.100.1/P_downstatus.htm)

Network Access : Enabled
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10240000 bps
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 512000 bps
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1
Software Upgrade File Name : ntlhm200_ntl0002.cpr
Software Upgrade AdminStatus : allowProvisioningUpgrade

Could it be that the software upgrade failed.
Thought I would try here first before ringing Virgin support.
Modem is an NTL 120 home.
Running XP home

Running Dan Elwells speed tests says should be getting 4000 kb/s put only obtain 2250 kb/s

Gratefull for any help.
Thanks

Best to call up and ask about an upgrade to a new modem.

For help with your TV or Phone and for Broadband Technical Support:

Call Product Support/Faults on 151 from your Virgin Media Phone. It's absolutely free.

Or call 0845 454 1111 from any other phone line.

Modem is an NTL 120 home.

I think its not a 120 its a 200, see the filename in the following

Software Upgrade File Name : ntlhm200_ntl0002.cpr The 200 performs much better at 10Meg but needs the ntl0003.cpr or higher firmware image to achieve 10Meg. When the service is upgraded above 4Meg you should get this.

I hope this helps

They must have put the wrong sticker on my modem. on the back it says it's a ntl home 120 (silver coloured box). Anyways will have to see what happens when I get new modem. Will post back then and let you know. Again many thanks for all yours help.

It will be a NTL home 120 they just use the same filename in the Docsis, but it was a good spot by Sambora.
