View Full Version : whats going on with my 20 meg connection?

hello,

my 20 meg connection has been fine usualy getting around 18 megs since i got virgin about 8 months ago, now just recently past week or so its been going bonkers speed tests i have done on bbmax are coming bk anywere between 2megs and 11 megs and not very often going above 12.

i do use utorrent to download stuff but i havnt downloaded much the past few weeks maybe the odd album here and there so nothing excesive and its always in the daytime i just dont get it unless its got sumthing to do with my partner playing xbox live at night i dont know, can anyone see any reason why its changed the past few weeks thnx, joxx

Your upstream transmit level is a bit high. I suggest you get a techy out to fix it. A high upstream transmit level can cause instability and speed loss.

dam shame my stupid level are ok and I still get bads speeds

thnx for reply after losing connection and speeds dropping to less thna half of half a meg lol i rang virgin i am getting a engineer out on wednesday so hopefully he can fix it, jox

well had virgin teci man out this morning and he said levels were fine and put a new modem on here is stats from new modem is there any diffrence,

he did say bad speed at night is due to heavy usage around here which is teeside but its not the point i pay for 20 and i want 20 megs at night my partner likes to play xbox live and its getting to the point were he cant cos the speed is so poo, have to see how it goes tonight its currently running 18 megs, jox

Speed test websites are EXTREMELY inacurate and im sure all the VM Tech support guys would aggree..

if you want to find out what you are really running at try downloading a large game file from
http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com and post what speed it levels out at..

I am sorry to butt in, but they are NOT inacurate all the time, well for me they are always spot on!

This is my latest test (I'm on 10Mb)

I wouldnt mind betting they let their own sites through the capping so they can say "See sir, you get 20Meg from our server, it is not your connection sir" when they know full well it is.
