Like you, I got fed up with the battery dying part-way through extended gaming sessions, so I picked up a copy of the PS2 title SOCOM, which I got dirt cheap from the Amazon marketplace.

It comes with a Logitech USB headset, which works perfectly well with the PS3. Have a look here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/SOCOM-US-Navy-SEALs-PS2/dp/B000AP4O9I/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1211801977&sr=1-4) - though my advice is to go for new, rather than used! ;)

Cheapest I can see there at the moment for new is £15.24 + £1.99 shipping.

Most blutooth headsets work with the PS3. I have tried alot because of the uncomfort after an hours game or so. Start's to become painful. I am currently using the Jabra BT-250. Its the best I have used yet tbh. Fits comfotably and has very good sound quality. There are newer version's of this headset out now to but thats the one I liked. There not cheap in stores normally but I've seen a couple of them on ebay around your price range so may be worth checking out. Good luck with your choice. Hope you get one thats you like. :)

If he's looking for a headset, he obviously wants to play online. Given the annual fee to do anything useful on Live, it'll cost him considerably more than a headset! ;)
