Central

Think back to when ITV had regions and not this silly nonsense they have today

So what is yours?

My favourite is Central.
I think its because I grew up with it. I dont remember the moon ident but the Cake one I remember alot. Shame it went.

My Worst is Granada
It used to be Yorkshire until I watched the Granada ones I just think they are so boring and lifeless.

When I was a kiddie in the early 70s on the south coast we used to have "Southern Television", it then changed to "TVS" and finally ended up as Meridian.
Also I remember before Central it used to be ATV, I can picture the logo after getting in from school, just as Crossroads started. The one I suppose I disliked, though more for the program than the station, was that awful program, "Mr and Mrs", it used to be on Border Television with a guy named Derrick Battie.

I remember THAMES (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLXjb9aq2UI) TV and ATV (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLXjb9aq2UI) I think the best are from BBC 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzRAGtTIuqg&feature=related) and Channel 4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CVdllN67OQ).

This makes me think back to being at Uni when we had to study idents.

I remember really liking the BBC1 hot air baloons.

The Central ident from the 1980s was my favourite, a silvery globe with rainbow colours around the left edge. You can see it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBTWGgGuL4w) on Youtube, but be warned, it's attached to the opening credits of The Price is Right!

I didn't like Thames much, because it usually meant Rainbow was coming on, which I always thought was a bit boring.

Oh, and I'd completely forgotten how Yorkshire used to mess about with their ident (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN96lLsnUiw) for the opening credits of 3-2-1! Good old Youtube ...

Incidentally, we still have our own idents in Scotland, where ITV plc is yet to take over. There are several, here's a couple of them:

Did there used to be one with a Knight in armour sitting on a horse?

Ah yes, thanks Chris. Childhood memories revived of eating toasted crumpets in front of the fire and seeing the knight appear on the old 12in B&W TV. :D

I always remember that one lynne, because it usually meant the start of "Sale of the Century" with Nicolas Parsons, all those great prizes each week:rolleyes: like a teasmade or a canteen of cutlery...oh dear we were easily pleased in those days.:)

I'm old enough to remember only three channels that finished around midnight, then they played the National Anthem

Careful, there are enough people on here who remember only one channel, flickery shades of grey on a 9" screen, curved like Sherlock Holmes' magnifying glass.

- the worst ident, then, was the white dot when the transmission ceased, - as picked up by the 'Outer Limits' ...
