I have used Onetel for phone calls over many years on my cable line (which started off as Cambridge Cable, then became NTL, now it's Virgin).

I paid the phone rental ONLY to the cable company, and all the call charges to Onetel.

Recently, Virgin started adding "connection charges" to my bill - of 10p for every call made using Onetel.

Onetel claims that Virgin should NOT charge. Virgin say that they do not currently have a contract with Onetel, so they have to charge.

It's unresolved at the moment - I hope that Virgin and Onetel get their heads together soon and sort this matter out!

What access number are you using with onetel?

I used to use 0800 957 1877 when I dialled it.
But now I have one of their "PhonePal" boxes which dials automatically,
so I can't tell what access number it uses.

My first Virgin bill (when they took over from NTL) in Feb 2007 was call-connection-charge free.
Then in January 2008 Virgin suddenly started adding 10p per Onetel call to my bill (plus VAT = 11.75p per call).

Virgin Media can charge whatever they like, only BT and Kingston has to follow ofcoms guidelines.

Btw are they still offering services like this with diallers?

Their website seems to say the Phone.Pal is still available, in their FAQs

(Google onetel phone.pal )

AFAIK VM do not charge connection fees to 0800 numbers, as a result you shouldn't be being charged for calls to numbers of that type.

I would speak to onetel and make sure that your phone pal box isn't dialling an 0845 number, as a connection charge very well might apply.
