I have been monitoring my connection for days now as i am very
suspicious when it comes to trusting them on their word about STM

4am this morning my skype went crazy sounded like we was underwater
tried the usual rebooting modems/routers rebooting the pc same problem.

Ran some Online speed tests incl a few Applications which test speeds
also did the usual legit downloading from Virgin media game Files

i was STM'd down to 6.5kb a second per download per thread.
i left this and continued to test it upto 4pm just same problems.

Phoned Virgin they themselves even said their own connections at home
was basically slow to a crawl and they themselves wasn't very happy with
their own place of work, i got passed onto different people.

To Cut a long story short i got talking to one of their senior tech's
he explained as much as he can that unless you get in touch and
basically complain your account will stay on a Restricted Point.
Most will just say its a problem with the UBR in the area but thats
not right, as now 10 mins after getting of the phone with him
my speed went back to 1.1MB not kb MB

They are controlling this its that simple if you dont complain
they wont do what ever they did to Resolve the issue for you.

Also Explain if you can only use the internet half the time why the
hell should you be paying 37 pounds? if your lucky like me
you will get it put down to £21.00 a month for 6 months till they
finished with their stupid STM trials and Go fully National with it.

I basically said the following

"imagine if i phoned your credit depo up and said err, due to my
Circumstances i think its necessary to only pay you half this month
for my service i'm trying to cut back on how much money i pay out.
i hope your understanding and sympathetic to my cause.

When she said it wasn't possible and we wouldn't tollorate that
as the service is a fixed price, i explained your doing the exact same to me.

once i explained the STM and only being able to use my service at max
for about 5 hours a day, she then understood why i wasn't p repaired to
pay 37 pounds a month for a service I'm clearly not getting

In Reality i can use my Connection for about 5 hours a day.
which is about 35-40 hours a week and this is only at un-social able hours
like 1am - 4am, if i'm paying 37 quid for a service that is halfed their is no
way i am continue to pay the full price so i will only pay for the hours
that i can clearly use the service as is advertised on your own website.

my total Reduction in cost is now £34.20 :) for 7 months this also incl my tv/phone/mobie packages.

Good Luck

I have never disconnected a customer due to STM, I guess the main reason for this been is not many customers know and will continue not to know as I dont 3 million users actually read forums or the virgin media website, plus you got alot of customer that check there emails and surf websites and dont hit the limits.

As far as STM goes I personally thiink its fair as it is now and all I do is limit my connection between peak times, the new limits are stupid VM are really about to shoot them selfs in the feet with this STM doesnt work currently as it is as customers still get ****ed off when they relise and bring in new limits is plain stupid.

If VM plan to bring out 50MB and have the broadband be the best in the UK they need to look hard at what they are doing and make a broadband connection that is unlimited without phorm and a well maintaned network ADSL providers like Sky and BE can do this well apart from a FUP but you dont hear about be or sky really imposing these limits.

Basically ppls bb needs are increasing but capicity is not.

Message to Virgin Media get this ****ing sorted

Agreed, i have steadily upgraded over the years as faster speeds [for some] have become available, i wont be looking at 50meg at all, whats the point when you have to pick a time as to when you can use it?
