Reliable Speed Test

Sorry, that test is a pile of puppy poo, as are similar tests. Tells me I am getting 1.5Mb download on a 20Mb connection, and I know that's wrong for starters.

They just give consistently inconsistent results. Nothing beats a good old fashioned download of a large file. :)

Well lads I just tried it and it gave me 18.19mb down and 0.63mb up, after a second and third go I got 2.16mb and 5.43mb respectively, and on the up-load 0.62mb and 0.51mb. I then done the download four game files simultaneously at: http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/demos/

The combined rate added up to around 2,300kbps, the only one I put any trust in Speedtest.net, when comparing against a large download its invariably the closest, as Toto says they are notoriously inaccurate

This has never given me a false result in the year or so i've been using it. I've always checked with a file download.

You need a multi threaded download app such as reget or download accelerator plus and a good source for the file ie download.com or Microsoft download centre. Speed tests are reliant on good web condition and therefore are unreliable. By downloading multi threads then you will max your connection potential and therefore give you a reliable test

Some people want a quick result and thats what it gives them, thats why they are popular.

I have tested this way and your way and the Virginmedia Gamefiles way and find the is not a lot of difference in results, and it is for a change UK based in London.

Already done zing, see above, strangely I learnt all about the downloading four separate files simultaneously from a previous poster, he went by the name zinglebarb;) so a belated thanks is in order.:D

Quick result......hmmmm, must see if my wife agrees with a quick result as a measure of a good service. ;)
