I am assuming that the start and end dates are correct but that a typo has been made on the following line. Nobody's perfect least of all Virgin. :)

Last weeks work seems to have been carried out as per last weeks schedule.

yep you're right. In the 'Description of Change' it states week commencing 28/04 and in the full description it says it starts on the 21/04. Hey, everything is `subject to change' according to VM. I guess whoever wrote it changed their mine half way through.:D

Hmmm. Luton area on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Wonder if on Thursday I'll be able to get a decent speed again after my 10mb upgrade...

Glad for ya Tay77. You mean that you got the free 4Meg to 10Meg upgrade and the UBR couldn't cope?

Jonathan90

I don't know, may it starts 21/04/2108 (subject to change)

think u will find that they r not all upgrades as in speed upgrades. They might just be UBR upgrades to make headroom for the 4-10mb upgrades when they should happen.

I know they're to resolve capacity problems;

I know (read: assume) my UBR was upgraded, and most people I know are getting 7/8/9mb out of it. Whereas I'm now struggling to get 2.5mb. Hopefully, this'll get fixed by Thursday without me having to contact Virgin. Not holding my breath though!

That was the same maintenance we got last week, been 19meg around the clock since, even throughout the weekend. :tu:
happy days are here again :D

Slowcoach,

As your connection is now fixed, could you do me a favour and ping a Jolt games server for me. My problem aside from download speed is one with erratic latency with spikes every few seconds off-peak and all the time peak times which makes on-gaming impossible and I would like to know if the upgrade for high capacity issues resolves it.

Have a look at this thread and if you could post a couple of sets of results, one off-peak and one peak time. I would be grateful.

My internet cut out last night after 12, as stated on that status page (I live in Belfast). According to that page there will be another disconnect tonight, and again tomorrow, and we're supposed to be getting 4 to 10mb upgrade during April.

Can't see it happening unless they work very fast!

Wonder why we're getting 3 days of upgrades. Belfast obviously sucks

Wow, I'm actually impressed. After Luton had their first night of maintenance last night, my speedtest results are now showing as just over 5 meg, which is a big change from the 2.5meg I was having the other day.

Hopefully, after tonight's maintenance, I'll be getting the full 10meg.

I'm still getting 3.5meg at the very most.

Time to get on the newsgroups and/or phone to VM CS I think.

When I was originally upgraded to 10 Meg, before the 20 Meg upgrade, I suddenly couldn't get a decent speed.

First thing I did was change the Ethernet cables but that didn't help, I had originally bought two RealTek 10/100 Ethernet cards and I still had one unused so I changed them over but still no improvement.

These cards would perform well on the local network but no change in the settings seemed to make much difference to the speed of the 10Meg Internet connection for some reason.

I decided to try a new card and as the RealTek Gbit cards didn't cost much more I bought one of those, immediately the Internet connection jumped to a solid 10Meg.

Funny you should say that,

I have an onboard 1gb connection, and a PCI 100mb card, and I always notice the jump in performance be it, through the LAN or online! Deffo worth a shot :)

Something has happened with the bagley UBR's too as for the first time ever I have reached max speed on my 20meg connection - previous best being 11meg.

Me is happy although I have a tech coming out tomorrow am to adjust some power levels on my modem...typical!
