Anyone see "Chuck" last night on Virgin 1?

New US comedy-drama, about a computer nerd who accidentally gets loads of secrets stuck in his head, & ends up working with the CIA & NSA.

Not brilliant, but not too bad for a first episode.

I saw it...I thought the same as you Matt... "Not brilliant" but it was mildly entertaining and didn't take too much brain power to understand. Its good to see some new shows on Virgin1 :).

It's a good show, I watched the first episode on the Virgin 1 website. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I watched it and half way through I got the idea of 'Reaper'-like. Comedy and seriousness mixed together, got bored of Reaper and thinking I will find this boring, deleted Chuck from my Planner.

currently on episode 6 its quite goofy and has some fun attributes, its not spectacular but watchable, at points it does become slightly too outrageous such as they way they just suddenly leave the 'buy more' ( best buy?? :D) and later on when things start happening in the store.... eye candy helps, the girlfreind of chuck is pleasing on the eye, also nice to see sarah lancaster around again!

i would not peg it as a must see but if you have some spare time in your tv viewing schedule its a show to watch

No, I missed it... on purpose might I add.

The amount of advertising put me right off it. There is absolutley no reason to have this "Chuck" shown 2 or 3 times in every set of ad's.

To be honest, I thought the ad's would settle down once it started, but alas no cigar. I am now on the verge of playing russian roulette, on my own with a fully loaded semi-automatic weapon as sessions with my shirnk are failing. (yes the amount of times they are showing the ads is driving my insane)

After previewing the first few episodes of Season 2, NBC has ordered the full 22 episode season.

I love it.

While certain other US shows seem to have been getting worse, I think Chuck has been getting better.

The penultimate episode of season 2 (& possibly the series if NBC cancel it) was on in the US last night.

Brilliant.

This has easily been one of my favourite US imports this season (after BSG of course) - far more enjoyable IMO than Heroes & various other higher rated shows.

Damn shame if they do kill it off.

Been a fan of Chuck since it started, it would be a great shame if it isnt picked up for another season.

But!

http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/12/16/tv-zombie-according-to-jim-lives-on-despite-dreadful-ratings/9690

According to tvbythenumbers.com there is a slim chance.

Edit

A couple of links that may be of some use to fans, first is a petition to ask NBC not to cancel

The second is Zach Levi's site.

I'd ignore that list, I saw programs that have been cancelled for months say that they've been renewed. It would be great if it was renewed, it's one of the very few decent shows that are on these days. I hope it doesn't get cancelled, and well we know NBC is a big fan of the show.

Ah, sorry for the pace change. Should've thought.

Not a major spoiler though, at all - popper's post was simply mentioning...

The upcoming wedding of Chuck's sister & "Awesome".

Doesn't spoil the main plot, or anything about the main characters.

Although I watch a fair bit of US TV shows, I've never really understood how the TV companies seem to come to some of their decisions on canning/renewing shows beyond the possibility they flip a coin in some cases.

The system takes no account of things like PVRs and the like. When shows like Dollhouse and The Sarah Connor Chronicles are scheduled for a Friday night when the target demographic audience they're after is more likely to be out doing things at the start of their weekend, is it a surprise that these shows get lower live viewing figures and high PVR figures?

Can somebody explain it to the simpletons among us how these studios think? Surely in these times of serious advertising cutbacks, it makes more sense to retain a known and trusted show they can be more sure of the ratings on than can it in favour of some unknown that bombs?

Sorry - rant over!

Tezcatlipoca
26-04-2009, 22:32
For the networks, everything is about advertising revenue... people who watch stuff using PVRs don't watch adverts.

It does amaze me though that they still don't realise that Friday nights are a rather stupid time to put something on.

Dollhouse & T:SCC aren't the first shows Fox has giving the kiss of death to by putting on a Friday night:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_night_death_slot

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_night_death_slot#FOX_and_Fridays

Back to Chuck... I don't think it gets stellar ratings, but it's certainly been doing better than some other shows AFAIK, plus it's had a lot of critical praise, & the Network actually likes it. Hopefully, when the bean counters at NBC decide on what lives & what dies, they'll give Chuck a thumbs-up.

Zachary Levi is such a nice bloke (an I dont say that often) unlike a lot of other "stars" he really seems genuine, yea its all about the next paycheck but he feels strongly about the show as do all its fans, and he went one step further.

Am I the only one who thinks that Chuck's mam is gunna be a big bad? She certainly didn't appear to be a victim there. Maybe it's going down the Alias root? Dad = good, mam = bad/proposedly dead

RIP Chuck's Dad :(

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Chuck's Mum turned out to be bad (& perhaps also something to do with Fulcrum & The Ring).

I wonder how it will work now everybody knows?

cimt
26-05-2010, 14:22
Well it worked fine with Morgan and Awesome knowing, although Ellie will be contantly paranoid for his safety. It'll probably be the same as normal. Although now it looks like he'll be working off the grid instead of for the CIA unless something happens in the first episode.
