Sometimes when I try to access google I am presented with a page containing a horizontal line with the text "Generated (date) by . (squid)" underneath it. As Virgin abolished the transparent proxies that ntl used, surely I should never see a message like this? As I only see it with google, it's possible that it may be their problem, but I doubt it as I have only experienced the problem on two computers, both on virgin connections in the same postcode. Has anyone else experienced this problem or is it just me?

According to that screenshot you were not connecting to google at all, the url is mozilla.com.

I'm pretty sure it's a problem with Google themselves, I've experienced this error a few times and don't use any transparent proxies.

I've been having intermittent connection problems recently with random sites not just google.

During one of these problems I managed to get a trace route to bbc.co.uk and it was being routed via the US

Yup.. I've seen that too.

The gmail notifier regularly tells me it can't connect with gmail too. Although it's been going on for ages I've never been able to find out anything with tracert.

the opendns is in reference to the squid errors.

opendns actually proxy google on their own servers, I had the error, I then manually entered googles real ip addresses into my hosts file and the error went away so I dont think google was actually down.

Also got a problem with this now and again and a user of opendns. Definitely a problem with opendns and not google.

Probably because you don't use OpenDNS.
