My bill says I am on LARGE BB (4MB). For the last month my speed tests come back as below -

Test 1: 1024K took 4438 ms = 230.7 KB/sec, approx 1901 Kbps, 1.86 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 5187 ms = 197.4 KB/sec, approx 1627 Kbps, 1.59 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 5203 ms = 196.8 KB/sec, approx 1622 Kbps, 1.58 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 10406 ms = 196.8 KB/sec, approx 1622 Kbps, 1.58 Mbps

Is it possible they have downgraded me to 2MB and not told me?

Or is this happening to others in Luton/Beds?

Thanks

in any browser type 192.168.100.1 login with root / root and click on the Operation Configuration link on the left nd report back the figures in these fields

Maximum Downstream Data Rate :
Maximum Upstream Data Rate :

Downstream Receive Power Level : 5.75 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 35.67 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 47.00 dBmv

What does this mean then?

Thanks

Anyone know if the results above from the website mean anything?

Thanks

Your 4mb has been upgraded to 10, so if those tests are accurate it's worse than you thought.

Try downloading a couple of big files from gamefiles.virginmedia.com or mirrors.virginmedia.com and see what the combined transfer rates are. Also tracert bbc.co.uk in a command prompt might be useful.

That looks to me like an wrongly configured modem, you shouldnt be getting 64k upload, should be 512kbps up (i think).

This means that your modem is not registered on the VM network. They do mess up from time to time, you need to call TS and tell them that you need to register your modem, and don't let them tell you that everything is OK and your internet should be working fine.

I can never get anywhere with the Indian call centre. Is it 100% not registered? Can anyone on here check it for me? PLEASE?

Thanks

It says you are on the 20Mb package, with 768kbps upload. Your signal levels have changed marginally (They do all the time) and that there is no software upgrade found for your cable modem.

Are you on the 20Mb package? It's odd as you are only achieving 4Mb. I think the modem needs taking off the network, and putting back on the network on their end via MAC address.

I am officially on LARGE BB 4MB package and have been for a couple of years, even when it was 2MB in the old days.

So this morning it looks like I am getting what I pay for? Is that right?

Thanks again.

The modem config you show is for the XL broadband package

My bill is for LARGE. I have never been on X LARGE. They better not bill me for XL BB!

Somebody else had this happen, a few months back.
They'd complained that their 4Mb connection was maxing out at 2Mb to be told that they'd accidentally been put on 20Mb!

I'll see if I can find it...

edit: Almost remembered it right -- it was hvendelbo's 10Mb connection (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/33628703-virgin-10-meg-is-a-dud.html) (which was actually 20Mb!) only managing to download at 158kB/s on a Sunday afternoon.

Why not try reporting the disparity in speed/connection via the Tech Support newsgroup?
It's generally a lot easier on folks' nerves...
If you've not already setup access to newsgroups, you'll find a guide here (http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/newsgroups/setting-up.php).
And VM's Tech Support group is 'virginmedia.support.broadband.cable' on news.virginmedia.com or text.news.virginmedia.com.

i phoned cs today after the engineer left. i am on a 20 meg connection so my modem says, but when i phoned cs they said i was on a 2meg connection. i explained that i have always been on 20meg why does it say i'm on2 meg. he explained ( if i understood correctly ) that when a new system was introduced my bb connnection went down to 2 meg for some reason for a couple of days, why i don't know. he put it back on his system as 20meg ( but modem has always said 20meg). i don't understand this one got me baffled. be nice to have a full speed 20meg service. engineer said it was there fault and there is no way i could get the full 20meg
