Hi,

I recently upgraded to V+ and hence got a SACM for my broadband connectiona dn thought I would upgrade to 20 meg connection. This was back in January and since then I have yet to get over 10 meg download and regularly get around 5 meg my average according to Speedtest.net is just 6.11 meg.

I have tested at all hours of the day and the results are the same.

I am using a macbook with leopard OSX and have tried both wireless and direct link to no avail.

I originally spoke to technical support but got very frustrated with the service I received and the language barrier sis not help either and I felt i was going around in circles.

I am on the south mancheter area on cpc5-bagu6-0-0-custXX.bagu.cable.ntl.com

Any Ideas?

Many Thanks

Matt C

I'd edit out the 'cust' detail in your ubr details to be custxx, just in case..

The Baguley area is notorious for patchy network performance, not that it helps you, sorry ...

Have you checked your modem's config to make sure you are really on 20meg?
Browse to http://root:root@192.168.100.1

You should see the following on the config page if you are on 20meg.

Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 768000

what?

well, if he is recieving speeds of 6.11 and has been getting 5-10 since the upgrade it would look like he has been upgraded.
i would check you modem logs though for upstream & downstream power and downstream frequency. if power levels are out of range it can cause problems.
speedtest sites are also notoriously bad for accuracy, for a more reliable speed guide go to gamefiles.virginmedia.com, go into the demos list and download 2 files simultaneously and check the transfer rate. (best to do this with a direct connection, even though it looks as though your router isnt causing any problems)

and if your having problems understanding tech on the phone you could always try using newsgroups.

My config is correct.

this is what is showing on my modem

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 2
Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM64
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : 1.0 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 38.1 dB

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 1
Upstream Frequency : 34000000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 48.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

And unfortunately turning from Sabreman to Sabrewulf makes no difference:D:D

Just a quick update i have tried to post on the newsgroups however it's not allowing me to post :(
