Just received this from virginmedia2@newsletter.virginmedia.com

"At Virgin Media, it's really important to us that we keep your details safe and secure and that we respect your privacy. So we wanted to remind you about something important about your email account.

Our records show that your email account was originally set up in a different name to that of the Virgin Media account holder. This means it is important that we make you aware of the following…

As our contract is with the Virgin Broadband account holder, they are responsible for all the services that come with their account - including all the email addresses. So if they called our team and asked us to make changes to your email address, including changing the password, cancelling the account, or making any other changes, we'd need to let them do it.
Just so you know, we won't give them your email address details unless they specifically ask for them. So if they don't ask us, there's no problem. But we think it's important that you know all about it just in case they do ever ask.
We hope this helps explain how the account security works. And if there's anything else you'd like to know about the way your account works, just take a look online at virginmedia.com/customers.

Kind regards,

The Virgin Media team"

Tthe "virginmedia.com/customers" is a href link to http://newsletter.virginmedia.com/re?l= (http://newsletter.virginmedia.com/re?l=)some kind of uuid possibly linked to my email address.

I think it looks a bit suss for the following reasons -

1. It makes no actual sense
2. The language could have been constructed better by a 4 year old
3. They claim to value my privacy http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/images/icons/icon10.gif

Is there somewhere I can report this and query it or has anyone else received anything similar?

Who are this mysterious "they"?

I think we should be told!

Paddy, go here (http://virginmedia.com/netreport), then select type "Security Related Enquiry" then "Other". Copy the whole content of the email to them, including the header information if you know how to.

That looks like a Phishing email, and not sent by Virgin Media.

Hope that helps.

Um, this is an official Virgin e-mail. It is being sent out as part of the billing and provisioning migration.

From what I can work out it is only being sent to accounts which are used for broadband control only, where the billing account is in a different name at the same address.

I.E. Mrs Smith gets a bill for TV Phone and Broadband but the Broadband Control account is in the name of Mr Smith

It is there to inform people that of how things are being linked together. e.g that Mrs Smith could now, if she wanted delete Mr Smith's e-mail or change the password, which she may not have been able to do previously

It doesn't ask you to enter any personal details, so it wouldn't be a very good phishing email ;)
