My wife's family are Scottish, and have a liking, for Scottish food, we used to buy this at Asda, pies, meat, fish etc, but ASDA have decided to scrap this, and sell Polish and Indian food instead, does anyone know, where l can obtain this Scottish food, have you ever tried Scottish square sausage, (and no it is true, its brilliant), l live in Isleworth, which is near Hounslow.:)

Arthur, a salient point about square sausage is the amount of fat that comes out of it if you grill it - it ends up about 1/4 of the original size, with a large amount of dripping in your grill pan.

And if you fry it, you are adding to the lard already in it.

That creaking sound you can hear is your arteries hardening. ;)

You should try Polish or German sausage - very tasty.

btw, our local Asda sells square sausage and haggis - but Leeds is a long way for you to come.

Does the Tesco's in Osterley not do them Arthur? ts a big enough store. The poles there do a good job with the car cleaning there though!

Many thanks for papa smurf, Farm Foods, no longer do Scottish Food, and the strange thing, that most of the supermarkets now are selling Polish food, and NOTHING from Scotland, or even Wales for that matter, Tesco's no longer do Scottish either, would you believe it they sell, cheap Polish Lager for 50p per can, is the UK, Poland, what annoys me, is that supermarkets must realise that, ENGLISH people do use these supermarkets.:)

Is there such a thing as Scottish food?

OK i recognise that there are a few items such as the much revered Haggis but what else is there that is Scottish?

There are Scottish recipes such as neeps and tatties but turnips and potato are not Scottish delicacies.

Do you mean food that is produced in Scotland i.e home grown beef, lamb or fish?

What happened to Macfisheries anyway..?

You're joking right? That's not bad considering Farmfoods head office is in Cumbernauld and they are a Scottish company. I have never known a Farmfoods store not to stock Scottish food. Like Bridies, Haggis, Arbroath Smokies (http://www.arbroathsmokies.net/) & Lorne Sausage.

Fill your boots (http://www.scottishgourmetfood.co.uk/).

Arthur you could always make some porridge (http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-the-perfect-bowl-of-porridge), or stovies (http://www.scottishrecipes.co.uk/stovies.htm), Paris buns (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_buns), or fly cemeteries. F (http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/islandblogging/blogs/005268/0000006549.shtml)ailing that, Scotch broth or Cock-a-Leekie soup (http://www.rampantscotland.com/recipes/blrecipe_leekie.htm), or try your hand at beef stew and dough boys (http://cookingthebooks.blogspot.com/2006/01/scottish-beef-stew-with-dough-boys.html). Just a few suggestions, enjoy!;)

I don't want to sound .................................................. .................................................

childish, but WTF, so the supermarkets are selling Polish food, big deal, they've sold Spanish Paella, Irish stew, and Bombay mix for donkeys. Why do you always go on and on and on, without going on :dozey:

Why don't you just say you hate the way the U.K / nay Great Britian has gone / is going and be done with it, that way, you'll have come out, we can deal with it and everyone is happy :erm: \/ \/ \/ \/

I'ts more likely to derive from the authentic recipe of butter chicken. Tikka masala as we know it in this country will have come from Birmingham.

I, on the other hand, am OUTRAGED by all the foreign food they try to sneak onto the shelves here in Scotland!

Nice try, Italy.. or Greece.. or whoever is to blame for this! :p:

(It was quite nice, actually! But then, I like haggis.)

To a very arrogant Bobdude, l simply asked a question, concerning Scottish food, that my wife and her family liked, and our local supermarkets no longer do the food they like, the only food they now sell, is Polish food etc, l did not expect your type of answer, and if you had read the question, l asked if anyone knew where l could buy it.:mad:

Hi cerberus, Thank you for your comment, concerning Farmfoods, and that they are a Scottish, company, that sells Scottish Food, They might sell it, where you live, but at our local Farmfoods, they stopped selling it, as they said, it was not popular, that l why l put the main question, where could l buy it. thank you anyway.:)

http://www.keepitsweet.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/49/products_id/221

I seem to recall it looking like that.

We called it spannish for some reason, perhaps some " older " forumists can bail me out here, because I googled the word and came up with some suggestions my ageing eyes should not be looking at, especially on a sabbath ;)

Right found it.

For some reason the web page from the link will not load up but here is the quote:

" Buy sweets on-line, mrs browns viction sweet shop sells over 200 different ... of hard Liquorice that’s flattened out at the end some times called Spanish "

Was a mistake in my initial spelling, I am clocking on a bit now :-)

Sorry arthur :-)
