OK so i've put up with it over the past few days - but i'm getting annoyed now, i'm getting frequent ping spikes when im trying to play CS, i've done a pathping, results below - i seem to get 'small' (?) levels of packet loss - is that normal?!

Is there anything i can do? :(

Errr probably not, it happens in other games as well ie BF2142.
The connections are poor generally, with ping spikes, lagging etc.
There is not a lot you or anybody else can do. You could do the whole technical support thing but if you value your sanity then I would leave it, and hope the problem is solved for you.
Not good reading I know but I've had to bear it for a long time now.

:(

I've only just got back into CS - but it's been OK prior to this (January up until now).

I what you mean about preserving my sanity lol.....

i am not sure but to me that looks like the connection between your router(192.168.1.1) and your modem.

AmAtoL

Going off my pingplotter trace there is a lot of loss from here to there as well.
Is 10.236.24.1 the UBR though ?
On mine the next hop from 192.168 is to there, and that is showing a ping of roughly 35 - 40 which is not good.

pooper
24-03-2008, 21:37
From what i can make out of those results, it's the first hop (beyond my router/modem) thats the probable cause?!

@ soup dragon: connection between my PC and the router (and modem) is fine, i can ping them all with no crappy times or loss or anything like that :S

hi guys, not sure whats going on i questioned my router and also NTL modem, however im playing css and im getting ping spikes. im on 4mb, my ping is normally around 30-40ms over the last day or two ive had spikes where ping goes as high as 700. it spikes between 200-700 no p2p running no spyware e.t.c ive heard there is a problem with NTL's UBR running at 99% capacity. is this causing issues as i havent had this problem until the last day or two.

southwell
26-03-2008, 14:48
I would try directly connecting the modem to the router first off, then you can narrow the problem down.

buksh
26-03-2008, 14:51
do you mean the pc to the modem?

southwell
26-03-2008, 15:19
Yes. Plug it directly, reset the modem and your connection settings on the pc and try that.

buksh
26-03-2008, 15:38
i can try that, checked everything on my pc first off. nothing has changed at all. but i'll try directo to the modem but i really think its NTL. never had the problem before.

southwell
26-03-2008, 16:40
Iam inclined to agree with you but if they ask you can say you eliminated the possibility of it being your router.

Oh this is REALLY pi**ing me off now... look at the state of this:

(this is the CS server im using - and getting unplayable ping spikes on. Everyone else on the server is getting a stable 30-40ms).

Try a tracert and see which hop is giving the problem.

I have a similar issue for last 2 days on TF2 servers hosted down south. My problem is with :- pop-bb-b-so-100-0.inet.ntl.com [62.253.185.238] .

Dunno wher that is though.

no problems here in my work mate, i'll try again when i get home. who is your ISP. im with NTl and im certain its there network. its foobed. i havent had this problem before.

my current steps to eliminate are

1. re crimp my rj45 (as the plastic clip broke off so it stays in, but isnt clicked in)...... i know its bad but i really couldnt be arsed changing it lol.....andim sure thats not causing my random ping spikes.

2. possibly replace my rj45 (this ones worse) found out last nite the plastic cover has worn away at one point.....again im sure this isnt the problem.

3. and im still to eliminate my router from the equation but again im sure this isnt the problem.
