NNTP Error when trying to access newsgroup

I'm using Ubuntu Linux and Mozilla Thunderbird, but when I select "Manage Newsgroup Subscriptions," I get the following error:

I used instructions from this guide (http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/newsgroups/setting-up-outlook-express-exntl.php) to get the NNTP server and other information, but my permission is denied.

you do also have to subscibe to VM for internet access to have access to the newsgroups.

I am on a Virgin Media connection.

Also, turns out that it was news.virginmedia.com, not news.cable.ntlworld.com. Problem solved.
