View Full Version : Another "what speed am I" question ...

I moved house and upgraded from M to L - my bill has arrived, it shows M. Speed tests (using the one on here) have been showing 16MB plus all week. I am slightly confused to say the least.

Just now it shows:

Sat, 23 Feb 2008 13:52:03 UTC

Test 1: 1024K took 640 ms = 1600 KB/sec, approx 13184 Kbps, 12.88 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 1016 ms = 1007.9 KB/sec, approx 8305 Kbps, 8.11 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 874 ms = 1171.6 KB/sec, approx 9654 Kbps, 9.43 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 2203 ms = 929.6 KB/sec, approx 7660 Kbps, 7.48 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 9701 Kbps, 9.48 Mbps

Modem (black VM 255) shows
Cable Modem Operation Configuration
Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 768000
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst : 1600
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1
Modem Capability : Concatenation Enabled, Fragametation Enabled, PHS Disabled

I spoke to CS yesterday and asked what package I am on - M they replied - so upgrade/move doesn't seem to have been processed correctly (but paying £10 for M and was supposed to be paying less for L if my sums are right with the package I was offered - but who knows until I get the other bill as nothing seems to be what it appears with VM bills ).

Therefore, please can anyone let me know from the figures above, am I getting faster speeds than I should do on M, or is this not set up correctly? Incidentally, when I logged in to the upgrade service from VM homepage, it suggests that I am on XL (but says XL is 10MB so that doesn't seem right either!).

Many thanks

MrB

20Mb. The modem won't be lying, unless it's been downgraded and not rebooted in a while. I can check remotely for you if you PM me your MAC address.

No offence BBKing, but have you been verified as being a member of VM staff?

Sorry to ask & all that, but with recent scamming etc, its better to be safe than sorry! :)

Don't know what happened but now downstream on modem of is 2048000 - very annoying as I was definitely offered BB L as part of my deal (confirmed by email) but CR say they cannot apply it for the price I agreed, only Movers team who agreed it, but the CS that arranged it will not respond to emails. From CR I should write to Swansea with copies of emails etc but didn't want to get CS into trouble - hence I have politely sent the message and a few reminders but now waiting over 1 month for a response!

More frustration with VM.

Get them into trouble, you were offered something in writing for gods sake :p:

Anywho, Broadband M IS 2mb. L is 4 - 10Mb and XL is 20Mb.

... And you my friend are on a 20MB config, so, id say that was a good deal? :)

You're never guaranteed the speeds you're on anyway, so i wouldnt take it to hear that you arent getting 20MB all the time.

2048000 is not 20meg. 20480000 is 20meg.

For instance:

Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000

Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 768000
