I just tested mine as this happened to me a few weeks ago.
Downloads won't go over 500kb/s, yet I can max out my upload.
The last time this happened, I ran every test newsgroup support
asked me and they could find no problem.
Might just disconnect the router (it annoys the kids) and run the tests again.
To many peeps blaming traffic management for their poor connection to the VM network. It's like darth said, check your upload speed it should drop to 0.192Mbps if STM has been kicked in.
My upload speed is almost never changes from 0.7 Mbps.
Speed test just done:

Same test done yesterday:

Large difference to download speeds and little between uploads. To the people are going to reply about speedtest webby. why is then four downloads from http://www.fuller.zen.co.uk/test/ reach a total of 0.961 MB/s (1st speedtest above 8.48 Mb/s = 1.06 MB/s) near enough the same as speedtest, go figure. Attached zen file download prtscrn

I can't get any of the speedtest sites to show anything and they all time out except ZDnet which shows this
Type Speed KBPS
56k modem 56
256k DSL 256
512k DSL 512
1Mb DSL/Cable 1024
2Mb DSL/Cable 2048
4Mb DSL/Cable 4096
8Mb DSL/Cable 8192
You 11
Results 816 kbits downloaded in 76.407 sec
Should we start a competition see who can get lowest download speed?
First prize a shiny new 14.4k modem perhaps!
Sorry for being frivolous, its the only thing stopping me from throwing a serious fit.
43kb that was to my us server
First post here, I only registered to see if they were traffic shaping on weekends also as i seem have to have dropped to 1mb from 4mb after downloading just over 2 gig. Rebooted my modem, ran some speed tests, downloaded from sites that normally max out my connection and everything is coming back as 1mb download and about 128kb upload. Yet there is nothing on the virgin site about this at weekends, it just says 4pm-9pm, so maybe they have just introduced this across the board?

And WHY would it not apply to weekends for?
Think about it, more people are home from work weekends, so the net will get battered more, just because most people dont work weekends, dont mean to say you get unrestricted speeds these 2 days too, STM is EVERY day of the week...

My speed has never dropped over the weekend before and it used to say that it was only Monday-Friday 4-9 that the stm came into effect. Now it just has the times. Normally when a company says peak hours hours, it generally doesn't include weekends.

As I said above, as MOST people are not at work, school or uni etc, then there is going to be much more people online, so yes, it would make perfect sence for them to STB at weekends too, when would it be busier, 4pm-9pm weekdays or most of the weekend???
I remember when I was at my last job, i was far 2 knackered to do much when I got home from work, so I made up for it during my 2 days off, that just so happened to be SATURDAY and SUNDAY.

I'm not disagreeing with you on how busy it will be on during the weekends, but 2 weeks ago there was no traffic shaping going on as I had to download a lot of stuff during the weekend and my speed didn't drop. Unless of course for some obscure reason I was overlooked.

It is quite possible that!
Quite a few people here have said that during weekdays they have downloaded over the quota & STM hasnt been applied, I guess its down to if the person in charge of STM was busy watching some illegal porn he'd downloaded via BitTorrent hehe ;)

I doubt this is shaping, though it is odd that it was fine not an hour ago
