Hi there,

Moving into a student house next year and it is cabled up (digital cable that is)
Before buying into VM marketing and such I was warned that cable broadband can be totally naff if the area is oversubscribed. Is this true? I was wondering how I can find out if it is oversubcribed and I was pointed towards this forum.

Edit: My postcode begins TW20 0

You need to state which area you will be in, give us the postcode excluding the last 2 letters. Then those in the vicinity may be able to give you a clue.

For the vast majority VM broadband is good, but there are a few who do suffer from lower speeds, apparently due to heavy loads in the neighbourhoods. Student areas are typically blamed. However as we only really get a large number of cable users on this forum, it's difficult for us to say if such contention issues are only cable, or could also affect adsl users in such student areas.

Yeah I did wonder about the possibility of getting cable just because the area i'm in will be heavily studentised (if there's such a word :p). Only problem with ADSL where I intend to live is that due to the distance from the exchange can only really get 4mbps.
