A big thank you to Darryl for doing a sterling job this morning installing my cable modem and phone line, he was on the ball regarding time, he phoned me up at 7.45am asking if it was ok to come and install it? The earlier the better for me I said, when he got here he did a cracking job no mess no nothing, he left me all the details of how to install the modem, (even though I've been on NTL for ages at my old address):D nothing was to much trouble for him. If all installers were like Darryl Virgin Media would rock.

So he didn't actually connect and test the Modem for you?

I think the OP means he left the instructions on how to activate the account.

Shouldn't he have done that regardless?

Oh yeah he left it connected and he tested it with his machine, he said to leave it half an hour before I turn my machine on, I left it well over an hour turned my machine on and basically the modem installed itself, he did a sterling job IMO.

NO.

Virgin installers are not permitted to touch a customers computer. They install the modem by the computer and check it connects by noting the sync and ready lights.
If those lights lock that is as far as they go.
Installing to computer and registration is STRICTLY the customers job.

Nidge - Do you live in NG5 ?

Still, half the problems we read about here are due to the installer leaving before the connection has been tested. Anyway, props to the installer and I'm glad he gave you a pain-free job :)
