Couldn't find this on a search - is it possible to send mail by smtp from a wirelss hotspot. I keep getting "server has sent an incorrect greeting" error. Tried various things but I'm now stuffed. My SMTP server is set to smtp.ntlworld.com in Thunderbird

Cheers

I have a funny feeling you need to be on a VM connection to access the smtp server...

CheersIt is but not to that SMTP server. It will only accept mail from ntl IP ranges. If you have your own server it will often accept from any IP address as long as you have authenticated to the POP3 within the last couple of minutes.

I thought it would work as long as you authenticated with your ntl username/password to the SMTP server?

Acathla is right, you need to be connected to the VM network to use the VM smtp servers, you can always send email via webmail tho.
