For the first time ever in my history with Virgin Media, my internet is SLOW. Ever scince I moved it's location on thursday. I had NO trouble connecting at blistering speeds on the Liverpool network, but now, on the Baguley one, it's all really bad. Right through the day, from 12PM to 2AM it feels like I'm being throttled back. I'm currently running at no more than 1500Kbit/s...Gah, what should I do? Consider that it may just be a setup proceedure?

Also, what is a reasonable noise on the upload? This is what my modem reports

Upstream transmit Power Level : 49.0 dBmV

Thanks

Welcome to the club, Baguley seems to have the entire UK subscriber list on it.

Is that it, the Baguley network is overcrowded?

Apparently it is oversubscribed, but cs denied it to me last week .
I'm currently going to get my BT line reconnected and going with BE or Sky or anybody but Virgin,I'm also going to ditch my tv services due to lack of HD programmes. What you are seeing now is typical for the Baguley server, but don't worry it will be OK when you're at work 9-5,you either have to be out of work or an owl to get anything out of VM's Broadband.

How is it then that a friend on a 2mb connection gets 2mb the majority of the time?

Is that it, the Baguley network is overcrowded?

Been extremely oversubscribed for neary 1.5 years, and they've just signed even more customers up to it.

You really have no hope in hell of it getting fixed.

I really do feel like going down to the VM building (in Wythenshawe) at times and giving someone a good beating.

I know someone who works there and she admitted a long time ago that Baugely was massively oversubscribed - mainly due to there being so many students in Manchester it seems. And so it really does drive me to the verge of violence when I see the speed get slower and slower, yet VM still hounding anyone who will listen, to be a new customer in the area.

I don't see how they think they can offer a sustainable service when they just keep grabbing more and more customers. All of whom must be getting nowhere near the speeds advertised. I get no more than 5meg of an evening at an absolute peak from newsgroups. And browsing the web becomes a plain chore.

What I don't understand is how come TV pictures aren't affected? Do the TV pics come down the same cable? Or are there seperate feeds for BB, TV and Phone? I am glad I used at leasta tiny portion of my brain and use SKY for my TV.

That'll help!, its not as if the staff at Wythenshawe aren't demotivated enough.

Baguley is about eight mile south of Manchester city centre. It is west of Princess Parkway, mostly between Altrincham Road and Hollyhedge Road. Princess Parkway is a major route into the city from the M56 and the motorway network, so there's good access to Manchester Airport and other areas of south Manchester and Cheshire. It's close to Wythenshawe hospital.

You get higher priority bandwith, so it would deffinately be higher than that, also a lower contention ratio, so you would be better off on the business package
