My dad's been getting internet from virgin for aslong as i can remember and eversince we set up my wireless connection i've noticed how slow it really is!

I have the router (Linksys WAG54GS) connected directly to the phoneline we recieve our internet through and then it get sent straight to my PC.

I think i've ONCE recieved 150kb/ps download speed i regularly get around 40kb/ps at most, no matter what the site is, even sites which offer 1mb/ps download speeds.

Is it my router, or is virgin really that horrible?

Connect a computer to the modem direct to eliminate or prove that your router is a factor with your slow download problem.

You may want to ask on the ADSL sites (dslzone, thinkbroadband),
They will ask you for your line stats. (sync speed, noise margin, attenuation) then take it from there...

See http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm for line stats.
