Overall Average Speed = approx 275 Kbps, 0.27 Mbps(ive known it to be slower!!)

Yes VM ive been connected(after i moved house,my old vm connection was fine) at my current address for 5 weeks now,got my 4th engineer visit next tuesday and this is what i pay almost £40 a month for!
I dont know what the bigger joke is my connection or the ad boarding i see on the way to work everyday "VM has the 'fastest net connection'" in the UK......

Just had to come offline from gaming again tonight. Another brilliant night of non gaming, checked speeds getting 300-1mb tops.

It's not the slowest 20meg connection in the UK, it's the slowest 20meg connection in the whole world.
I am the same and when my son gets home from a training course I am going to ask him to enquire about BT.
I don't see why I should be ripped of like this any longer, I have never ever since 20meg was introduced had more than 8meg, and that's not downloading, that is from speed test only.
Shame really, I have been with them years even before they were Telewest, what a prat I am to have put up with the rip off all these years.
Some times it's not even as fast as the dialup AOL we had many years ago.

Re: Slowest 20meg connection in the UK??

I`m not sure about the slowest.... i may hold that record on 20Mb....;)
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/33623814-i-guess-its-a-minority-what-page-2.html

IF you look further down that thread at my last post/s you`ll see our 1Mb Set Too Box was running faster than our 20Mb cable modem last night, after midnight at that;)

As mentioned elsewhere though i had an enginneer out again yesterday and we`re all alledgedly going to see some vast improvement in SE3 come the 21st.More work happening apparently....again

My speeds are good whilst I am a sleep and do not need it but when I am home after 16.00hrs my speed is slooow and on top of that we are not allowed to download more than 3gb before being throttled.

The reason I upgraded to the top tier was to be able to download at speed and although I do not often go through the 3gb barrier but when I do I get punished with speeds which cost a lot less than I should be paying.

I could have just as well stopped on the 4mb connection seeing as this is about all I get.

I wouldn't have moved to VM in the first place if the BT wires worked, I was stuck on 512K max with ADSL here and the phone didn't hardly work either, which is probably why VM don't have to try too hard in this area.
Wi-Max is coming here in a year or two so I may have another option eventually, in the meantime I have to grin and bear the crap that VM throw at me during the evening.
The one good thing is that I am not affected by the STM, speeds increase when I am throttled.

Yeah the explanation is that VM are cheapscates and instead of just providing ONE customer with 20Mb, they are taking most of your speed and re-selling it to other customers, hence the over-subscription of most areas around!

21st today.......the day of the "work",the work that i was told about by the visiting engineer last week. The "work" that was happening in my area today.
Wether that had meant SE3 or London or even England i`m not so sure.

Apparently we had no broadband whatsoever this morning according to the missus. Not via the stb or the sacm.
She called up herself and was told the problem in the area(work??) would be fixed by lunchtime.

It was all back on by time i come in but i`m not sure if it was the alleged "work" or just some outage.Usually if our sacm is down the stb bb will still be on & vice versa but both were off this time apparently.
Downloading at about a meg or two more than the speedtest result and thats a speed i`ve not seen for weeks i suppose.

Do like i did. Report VM to the ISPA, also use the ComputerActive petition to make your voice heard, as Branson's empire seem to be deaf when you mention capped speed.

The ISPA will take action if there are enough complaints.

Just a quick update to the ones who were intrested in BE. I have been connected for 2 day initially i was arounf 7mb down and just over 1mb up. I read around and noticed there is a few things you can do to increase the speed. I phoned be (free phone) and asked them to change the SNR they did (the whole thing took less than 5 mins from picking up the phone till the SNR being changed. It upped to around 7.6mb then i read something else that you can change you connection to fastpath so i rasied a ticket on there webiste at 10pm at around 12.40am my online game went off checked my mail they had changed it to fastpath (which needed a auto modem reboot) speed upto 8.5mb pings down under 20ms and upload of 1.3mb. I got to say from start to finish from BE they have been superb, i ordered i think around friday they sent a email within 2 hours confirming order they send another one 30 mins later giving me times of delivery of modem and line activation date, the modem turned up on monday connection started on thurs and everything is fine. By the way i am 3km from the exchange and have a Attenuation 51.5 so these speeds are very very good considering the attenuation and distance.

Right now, at 3PM (NON-Peak time) I'm getting 1-2mb tops. I KNOW I can get more than this because when it was all reinstalled the other day, I got 19mb+ all night, so there must be some form of throttling going on despite not having downloaded anything.

At long last you have got it!!!

If you DARE use your internet during peak times, then you will hardly get 3Mb, I havent seen 2 for months now!
