The faster i've ever gone is just over 16MB so i'm going to check my Ambit 200 modem settings on this page http://192.168.100.1 What readings should i be checking to make sure if everything is alright?

After doing thousands of speed tests after Stockport was upgraded a few months back the fastest it's ever gone is 16322 kbps out of 20480 kbps which is not very good. I don't mind it being cut back as long as it goes at 20MB at least part of the day which is what i'm paying for.

Do not ever rely on speed test sites. They are often very wrong.

For example look at this screen shot, this was capture only minutes ago. There is about 1 minute between the speedtest result shown and the download from usenet. They are not running at the same time.
The speedtest shows a **** poor speed but look in the top corner of the image and you will see the true download speed i am getting from giganews, 2.6mbps. This is slightly above 20meg.
As you can see there is a massive difference between what these sites report and what is often your true speed.

My feeling is your connection is fine but the sites you frequent are not able to deliver. This is normal.

The only speed test site that has been accurate over the years for me out of all the speed test sites has been www.dslzoneuk.net (http://www.dslzoneuk.net) Whether i've been on 1,2,4 or 10MB it has always given the correct result. Even Cable Forum's speed test doesn't work properly for me, always giving a result that is too fast.
