View Full Version : Speeds In Stockport
Can anyone in Stockport go faster than 16MB? I've been doing speed tests now for a few months since Stockport got upgraded and i've never been able to go faster than 16MB.

Test 1: 1024K took 437 ms = 2343.2 KB/sec, approx 19308 Kbps, 18.86 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 422 ms = 2426.5 KB/sec, approx 19994 Kbps, 19.53 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 422 ms = 2426.5 KB/sec, approx 19994 Kbps, 19.53 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 859 ms = 2384.2 KB/sec, approx 19646 Kbps, 19.19 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 19736 Kbps, 19.28 Mbps
That was just now, obviously...
SK2 here, it is up and down though. Like I've said before, it's not the outright speed that matters to me, it's the quality of the connection, and that plays havoc with the gaming side of things.

You've been downloading too much IMHO. Therefore, Traffic Shape Managment has kicked in... Guys, this is common sense!

I am sorry you are wrong, I do not download at all, my upload speed is 380, therefore I have not been "capped", similarly a lot of people here suffer the same fate and they have not been capped.

Then, don't bloody complain here! Call VirginMedia!
What's complaining here going to get you? Sweet FA!
SK6 calling - not too bad (and with QOS enabled on router):

Who says I am complaining here Mr Hitmanme?? I have called VM I have written to them, I am merely moaning like everyone else here who is suffering from low evening and weekend speed. FYI I have already reinstated my BT line and bought an ADSL modem router and ready to go. This is a site for complaining and moaning isn't it and if you don't like moaning and complaining, you should not come onto this site, in case you are too young for this site, when this site was started it was called NTLHELLWOROLD, and it was set up as a PROTEST site.
What good its going to do by complaining? It got things done, long time ago, the email system of NTL was so bad that everybody complained and moaned like the speed concern now, eventually NTL improved it servers, thats what good it did.

What surprises me is that Virgin don't have a chain of joke shops,
I would think that they would be very successful with them. :monkey:

Its good to know the roots of this site:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nthellworld
Sk5 here, I never get above 12mb on that speed test, often its 1.5mb and I have never been shaped as I download during off peak times.
Now, opening 20 nodes on newsleecher 10giganews and 10 ntlnews i max out at 2MB/s during off peak times so im not to worried.
Web browsing has slowed for me though compared to when we were 10mb and the connection was solid
