Sorry I did try searching (maybe not hard enough)

I've read the VM traffic shaping page
http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html
and this (doesn't really look accurate) :
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/3073-virgin-media-introduces-traffic-shaping-for-top-5-of-users.html

But what are the upload speeds pre and post capped for all tiers ?

What I have gathered is this :

XL
768kbps -> 256kbps (That cuts the bandwidth by 1 third ! which is a killer !)

L
???kbps -> 192kbps

M
???kbps -> 128kbps

Can someone help me fill in the gaps ?

Cheers

L upload is 400kbps. M upload is 256kbps IIRC, but can't immediately find confirmation of this...

L upload is 400kbps

Thanks but more precisely this should be 384kbps which means that when a 4meg user gets shaped their bandwidth is shaped as 2:1

Whereas the XL customer is shaped harder at 3:1 *HECK*

Nopers! Double checked my SACM, my upload is limited to 400000 bps - fairly sure this is standard.

(unless there's some some allowance for overheads, or a very unusual interpretation of 'kilo'...)

This will explain how they do it:

4mb - 384k upload
2mb - 192k upload

I think thats right

2mb - 192k upload

Think I tend to agree but I thought 2mb was 256kupload before throttling..
Thats what I was getting when I was on it... hence the reason why 2meg was so attractive (the upload to download ratio) and the reason why I stayed on it for a very long time.

Depends if you're ex NTL or not but as a general rule...

Download > Capped download / Uploaded > Capped upload

2Mbps > 1Mbps / 200Kbps > 128Kbps
4Mbps > 2Mbps / 400Kbps > 192Kbps
20Mbps > 5Mbps / 768Kbps > 256Kbps

Ahhhh thanks mate all makes sense now.

Different rates for different users depending on who or what you came from :D

Ex TW have slightly lower uploads, but only by 8-12Kbps or so. VM cater for the lowest one so ex TW don't complain that they're not getting that last 8-12Kbps of bandwidth :)
