I'm meant to be on 4Mb, and I usually have a download speed on torrents which is a lot faster than this. But for the last few days, it's been below 10. Any ideas? I'm connected to the internet through a router which the modem is directly connected to. I'm not using wireless on this PC.

Make sure your upload speed is capped to 35KB/s and the torrent has a lot of peers. Also, follow the instructions on www.portforward.com

^ yep good advice.

What modem are you using by the way? the NTL:HOME 120 modem can't handle stuff like Torrents, the 250 modem can :)

I'll check it out.

It is the 120, I never usually have downloads that slow. I mean I've been getting an album for 1day and 6hrs according to uTorrent. The file is 330MB. Do you think VM would replace a modem if it wasn't achieving the download speeds it's meant to?

Yes, they would replace it, they did it for me. I wouldn't mention about torrents to them though ;)

by the way - do torrents stop a lot of times and you lose your internet for 1-2 minutes? this used to happen to me whilst downloading torrents.

Nope, I don't get that problem. I'll have to contact VM then.

There's plenty of seeds and peers on them, so that is not the problem.

I understand that I won't achieve the top speeds, but it's the fact that a download never usually goes that slow.

Torrents do actually give you top seeds, but it all depends on the other users, whether it be the seeders or leechers.

Depends on their connection, whether they restrict their upload speeds as well !

What torrent client are you using?

uTorrent. It's always worked fine in the past.
