When I click on the "Virgin Media - login" icon on my desk top I get the following error message......
" Windows cannot find 'https://webmail.blueyonder.co.uk/scr/login.php' make sure you typed in the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file click start button then click search"
This message goes off after 4 seconds and the login page appears and I carry on as normal.
It does not appear to affect anything, buts its a nuisance.
Ive no idea how it started
Does anyone know how I can stop this appearing.
O/S Windows XP home.

Hmm you don't say what type of connection you have but this sounds similar to an issue my daughter had when she upgraded from dial-up to BT ADSL BB via USB. I remember I went to Internet options/connections/settings and changed something there but offhand can't remember what. Activated LAN maybe?? Have a fiddle round or at least, a look at what you have set in there. Maybe something may ring a bell.

Is your Internet working correctly otherwise?

I would delete it or change the target url to

https://webmail.blueyonder.co.uk/

Many thanks for the responses to my problem........

My connection is Virgin Media broadband...had a good look round, everything seems to be in order.

The internet is working ok on my pc ( and also on my wife's laptop, connected by wired router.)

I was tempted to delete the icon and change the target, but have been reading comments on other various forums concerning the internet problems and poor service experienced by some Virgin Media customers, since the change over from Telewest.

As mine seems to be ok so far, with the exception of this very minor problem, I have decided to leave well alone for the time being, complying with the addage "If it ain't broke - don't mend it"

Thank you all once again ....

The link 'https://webmail.blueyonder.co.uk/scr/login.php' doesn't work (tested from work on a non-virgin connection). The https://webmail.blueyonder.co.uk address is the correct one - it's certainly the one I use on my Dad's ex-Telewest email account. Whilst I agree with the addage "if it ain't broke" one would assume it is broken hence the original post. Changing a shortcut won't break anything.

Thanks for your suggestion ...have deleted the shortcut, and can get to webmail the long way round. but am now unable to create a shortcut to the login page, on the desktop.
The normal options do not appear to be there .
Any ideas ?
Thanks

I assume that the following steps don't work:

1. Right-click on the desktop
2. Select New -> Shortcut
3. Enter the path as https://webmail.blueyonder.co.uk and click Next
4. Name the shortcut (e.g. WebMail) and click Finish

If this isn't working, what error messages do you receive?

Never been down that path before.....did as you suggested ...it works.....but I have still got the same problem as before.

When I click on the newly created internet shortcut........I get the error message....
( white X in red circle)
"Windows cannot find https://webmail.blueyonder.co.uk. make sure you typed in the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file click start button and then click search".
( OK ) Button

This error message is there for 2 seconds and is then covered by the Webmail login page and I can proceed as normal ..........however the error message remains on the desktop until I go back to the desktop and remove it later.............
