Vista and vm cable problem

I have VM 20mb cable via a ntl 250 modem and a netgear WGT624 V3 rougter hooked up to my pc via ethernet,

I leave my pc 24/7 in my home office but the problem i have is if i leave the pc say for a hour the internet stops working and i have to type ip config/release then ipconfig/renew to get it to work again,

Any ideas how i can fix this problem,

surely it's a problem between the router & the pc, as the ipconfig command just releases & renews the pc's ip, not the ip that the router get's from the modem.
