View Full Version : Taking up the Violin
Hey all,
While I enjoy pc's it's fast becoming something which is boring me, I fancy something new and something I can enjoy while others enjoy aswell.
I am curious if anyone knows of where I could learn the Violin in the Rochdale,Oldham area and if anyone here has learned it, and whom I could get in touch with and perhaps learn a little from.

It won't be cheap, but definitely well worth learning. I haven't played since school, but know i could pick one up and play it straight away. Once you learn you never forget ;)
Good, I don't care about cost, I just want to learn, and the violin has a certain something for me.
Of course you get the same results with a cat and a tazer ;)
Nah seriously if its something you want to do go for it and don't be put off if it doesn't seem to be happening as quickly as you'd like. :tu:

'Taking up the violin' - I thought that was slang for something..
I played the violin when I was younger, can't say I enjoyed it really - much prefer the guitar - but good on you if you want to do something like that

 you would think that wouldn't you! :p:
I always wanted to play cello, but all I got was a recorder

ask in local music shops also, they often have little adverts for teachers, else they may know of someone.
Shall do also, off next week to see into a Violin of my own, got a few friends who also have played some to grade 7 and 8 whatever that means  still being this determined I am sure I can get there.
best of luck! :tu: as long as you enjoy it, that's the main thing. :)
I will see how far I can go, but I've my favorite Violinists and to match the odd song of theirs would be an achievement.

Glad I don't live next door to you.
I remember the noise I made when I was learning

I believe you're thinking of 'plucking the banjo'...
Well, maybe not at the minute, but I bet you will be later on :)

Hmm. I'll have to go and look that up to see if I am thinking about it

you'd be surprised how quickly you pick something up when you really want to play a certain piece - I've no idea what I'm doing on a cello, but I can play that bit in 'Your Ghost' by Kristin Hersh, so I'm happy! :)
Yeah, I've a few pieces in mind, all Celtic though.
Just daunting how much I have to learn, reminds me of when I first begun on computers and I didn't even know how to install Solitare on Windows 95
Just wondering, the woman sold me a bausch Violin, I love it my tutor loves it and I've been told by another person that they're quite an expensive violin, and that I am a lucky SOB to get it for the price :D
Looks quite new to me - I really like the sound of older stringed instruments :P
(and pipe organs)
A arty shot with my crappy old camera :D
it does look lovely, and as long as you enjoy it and take care of it lovingly like it is an antique, then it'll be worth every penny. :)
You can't tell from a photo but it should be more than adequate - no excuses! Just keep it up.
