I just found it amazing that yesterday 'The Metro' could devote an entire page to this guy skimming the stone - surely there's slightly more important things going on in the world, given that the paper is only 30 odd pages long...

I wasn't reading it, I was just looking over someone's shoulder whilst I was reading my highly intellectual book, that was full of willy jokes.

What's the highest number of skims you have ever achieved? Sadly, as a sign of my mis-spent youth, I can answer that exactly - 11.

No, you were looking at someone's shoulder. There's a big difference, you know?

I only managed two. I could never find a good left handed skimming stone they all seemed to be right handed (that's my excuse anyway).

If it will make you happy, here is a possible answer to your posted question - New Scientist (http://media.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn2928)
"it would have to be travelling at about 40 kilometres per hour and spinning at 14 revolutions a second.
He adds that drilling lots of small pits in the stone would probably help, by reducing water drag in the same way that dimples on a golf ball reduce air drag."

I used to do those skimming accross water tricks when I was younger but never got more than 4 or 5 hops.
You need such a flat stone. Slate works well.

0. Dunno what i'm doing wrong. No matter how laterally I throw the stone, or what spin I put on it, never skims.
