View Full Version : Service interruptions, Ashton under Lyne (Oldham)

On three consecutive days now, I've had unexplained interruptions to my internet and TV service (phone has been ok). The first was Thursday, mid-evening for about two hours, the second was Friday afternoon for five or six hours, and the last was tonight (Sat night/Sun morning) for about ninety mins.

Rebooting the modem doesn't help; I just drum my fingers on the desk until the connection returns of its own accord

VM's Customer Service or the recorded message don't report any faults in my postcode area (OL6). Anyone else suffering or know what's going on??

Could be they are sorting the system in order to accommodate all the new customers signing up for the £4.95 2Meg service and free TV with phone service. I had 2 flyers from VM yesterday.

Whatever, you can bet you will be screwed with a poorer service in the end.

Hmm, well if that is the case they would or should let us know there will be outages, eh?

Oh and guess what... There's been no TV or internet for a couple of hours this afternoon too!:td:

Same here in NN3.

I am getting pretty sick of it now. Since getting 20Mb I have had the same problems as described above.

It is really annoying that they pretend like there are no issues, no doubt they want to make money out of us by getting us to call the premium rate number.

bah. i think my net's already started to play up. looks like i'll have to call in tommorow, with a 1.00000000000001% chance of getting through to the uk call center. lol

I'm in middleton M24 and for the last ten weeks we have had loss of tv and bb at least once a week ,usually for a few hours but last time for three days when we phone to report we are told it will need an engineer to visit but phone back later and it has become an area fault ,same tale every time

Are there any VM employees on this forum who could shed some light?

I've recently been considering buying a large HD telly and then switching my TV service to SKY as they carry more HD programming, so this crap situation with VM isn't helping to convince me to stay.

Eh up, they're not bad odds really! (just kidding)

Ours hasn't been too bad in OL10. When we do have problems, its not a good time to phone them, and when I am able to phone VM up, its working fine... go figure!

Speeds of 130k on a 20meg line this morning OL8 and i have seriously had enough and im not sure when my half price deal is up that i will bother staying this time

slowcoach

I was struggling to get 1Meg yesterday until 11pm but web pages were loading faster than I have ever had with cable.
Back to 16-17 Meg this morning which means I will probably be OK for 2 or 3 days, that seems to be the pattern.

Thank you very much for the info Mr X ,strangely though this latest outage did not affect us at all and the previous one which lasted three days did not affect my cousin who lives thirty yards away on the same street
Oh the joys of technology

Mr.X
25-09-2007, 17:07
My guess is your cousin is on a differrent UBR than yourself.

blackbob
25-09-2007, 17:16
Time to display my ignorance ,how do you discover your UBR?

Mr.X
25-09-2007, 17:36
Here you go http://tools.virginmedia.com/ scroll down on the page under Your Access Info it'll give you your IP address and then the UBR. its looks some thing like ubr10blac etc.
