Hi,
Can I connect to the Internet, using my Laptop(s), via the Ethernet ports at the back of my ntl box and the V+ Box? If so, what steps should I take, please? Thanks.

In some Virgin Media areas, broadband is available via the Set Top Box (depends on the model of the STB). No service is available via the V+ box. In many cases the STBs use a standard case that include varous ports (ethernet USB etc) that different cable operators may or may not enable.

However the STBs can only support the lower broadband speed. Thus Virgin Media are not offering new connections this way and are providing separate modems. Most of the time thiese can be supplied for self install if you already have TV.

If you alread have a modem, there is no need to change anything. You have the best option.

If you want broadband you need to call Virgin Media to arrange the connection and installation. It isn't something you can just switch on.
