Hi all,

I hope someone can help me out here.
A friend of mine asked for my help in setting up her Virgin Media Broadband, but I'm stuck as to what the issue is.

All the hardware is connected, and when going through the set up disc, it gets to a point and then stops, giving a TCP/IP error.

When you attempt to follow the "fix" instructions, it opens up the connection settings for the ethernet adapter (Linkysys LNE100TX), select properties, but instead of there being the option to "tick" activate the Internet Protocol, theres nothing, all you see is the driver details for the adaptor???

Obviously the problem is that TCP/IP is not activated, but I can't see how to activate it when the option isnt there.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a solution?

Cheers in advance.
Baz

try the auto reg page and dont use the cd https://autoreg.autoregister.net/

reboot the modem first then try that link

Hang on ... if TCP/IP isnt installed this isnt going to work. Do you have the drivers on a disk for the Ethernet adaptor? If so, try reinstalling it. If its a Linksys adaptor, the drivers are all availible from their site. Then http://80.5.178.26 or http://autoreg.autoregister.net to get the modem installed, reboot at the end (even if the modem reboots itself), and bingo :)

Also another problem that can arise is a Winsock corruption. This can sometimes occur when a new system is set up - especially if you're using Windows 2000. The symptoms are a complete loss of internet connectivity, whereupon local area connections (Settings/local & dial-up connections/local area connection) display packets are being sent but not received. :erm:

If you can, get a hold of a file called Winsockfix (windows 2000) or WinsockXPfix (Windows XP). Running same will "usually" clear most network type problems and get you up and running.

Good luck and Si thee.
