I was online fine today & then I lost Yahoo messenger & Rapidshare Upload. I looked at Modem & all lights were OK. (Ready & Sync)

After Rebooting PC & Modem I see I have a 169 IP Address, so I removed my Router/Hub & connected the Cat5 to Modem & then rebooted all again. I get 192 & then 10 seconds later a 169 & Ready light flashes. Phoned NTL (free to check status), then the 0906 number. I spoke to a great guy & he asked me to ReBoot Modem 1 final time & look at IP Address.

Still 169 & Ready flashing... Then its ok & no flashing & then all lights flash (like a Power reboot). I've repaired network & IP is 0.0.0.0 then it sets to 192 (no Webpages load) & then 169 nothing loads.

I have just removed the Coaxl & rebooted 1 final time & I have a IP of 81.103.XX.XXX & a Subnet of: 255.255.XXX.X

The support said a guy will call out 12noon till 4pm on Wednesday (soonest he had)

Anything else I can do?? Cheers

Your network card (or drivers) maybe buggered.

how do I find out for sure? or Fix it? I have 2x Dells & both are same (very strange if both went wrong the same day?)

..You're getting a 169 IP on both dell PCs, with presumably their own network cards?

I was. But now I have a IP of 81.103.XX.XXX & a Subnet of: 255.255.XXX.X

NTL guy said yesterday it was a Modem error (as Ready was flashing) now its not but IP is not 192 (like it was) but a 81.

Dell has a Intel 82566DC Gigabit Network Card

192 is the cable modem, 81 is the IP that has been assigned to the Network card..It got dealt the 169 yesterday because of a problem at or on the other side of the modem from what you have said..I take it you are using it now?

For general reference, here's a bit of Light Reading (http://www.click2web.com/169.php) about the dreaded 169..
