Greetings all

I live in Lancashire and have had NTL broadband for 11 month. Last week my cable broadband (now with Virgin) stuttered to a halt. I rang tech support and they said I was experiencing packet loss. The ping test showed an inconsistent pattern of "response times out" messages along with successful replies. Packet loss 50% was one of the results.

Virgin tried to blame my PC and were about to abandon me with no internet, but then i got a brand new laptop out of the box, hooked it up to the modem and got the same fault, proving it was their issue.

The connection seems to be very inconsistent with both the ready and sync lights sometimes solid, sometimes flashing and sometimes off completely.

And it will be 6 days before an engineer can come out.

Anyone had this kind of problem before, might the modem have a fault?

Any suggestions greatly received as i have zero faith in Virgin after they tried to abandon me.
