New upload speed trial is soon to be in play ;)
here are current upload speeds for me, and yes, consistent, often jumping to 180kb/s for a few minutes.
Anyone looking forward to this? :)

Dont know much about the trial, configs were given out today to 7 VM engineers here in nottingham, upto 20 people on it (apparently), upload is 1.5mbit
BUT
STM kicks in at 2GB.
only in nottingham then?
strange the STM limit drops though

I often get upload speeds of upto 130KB/s through uTorrent, but I would be really happy about that new upload speed!
When you say STM kicks in at 2GB, is that upload or download do u know at all?

This isnt speed bursts though, this is a constant 160kb/s, that's at peak, none peak i can get a steady 200kb/s.
It's both, upload drops to 30kb/s with STM, Download Drops to 1mb/s

Also would this be on the 20mbit service, if so, While i'd love 1.5mbit I'd be rather irritated at 2GB (inc up/down)

Great, nothing near speeds i'd call amazing, but lovely stuff - maybe near Xmas time.

Sorry i meant 1Mb/s (aka 10mbit)
2GB Limit is factual, in a few parts of nottingham 2GB is already the new limit for STM, The area of newark, for example, now has a 2GB limit before STM kicks in.

Is that screengrab from the 50 or 100mb trial, or is it just a faster upload trial on its own? imo they shouldn't even be considering saturating the network with yet more data (even if it is on separate channels, it's all gotta ingress to the core network eventually)... they should sort out peoples' downstreams and light up enough dark fibre to supply the entire UK with 20mb. I'd pay 37 a month for proper 20mb (glad I'm not paying 37 quid though given the service I'm getting at the moment!)
Those uploads do look nice though... As a former Be* customer who got 1.3mbps upload solid, it's something I miss! Things like VNC and running a private FTP server so I could get to my files away from home was very nice on Be*, and it is a little more sluggish on this VM connection.
I hope our upload speed does get upgraded soon. :)

One thing I've noticed on my bb is that the upload nearly always maxes out after a bit... I've seen >=100kb/sec FTP transfers in the past couple of days, which is nice.
Not quite 130kb/sec, but I guess if he's in an area which isn't oversubscribed it's a possibility?

Are you sure it's not just your FTP client miscalculating the speed when the upload first starts? Check your modem config, see what your upstream rate is.

you do realise of course the uploading of copyrighted content is much more illegal than actually just downloading it do you not? You do also realise that uploading constantly puts much more of a stain on the network than downloading do you not?

I do use newsgroups, to download all of those lovely linux ISO's we all adore so much.
But these are trade only, so ner :p:
P.S 99% of those torrents aint illega, covered because they are work related uploads ;)

Mine aint even peaking, it goes somethin like 110KB/s, 115KB's, 100KB's back upto 109KB/s and there u go!!!

No, my uTorrent hasALWAYS been fast 2 upload, and NO it aint illegal content, its a DJ torrent site and I upload a few new mixes of mine a week n download others to listen to...

I'll believe it when I see it for myself. Although I welcome any upgrade to the upstream, 768kb/s for 20mbit down is just not good enough, even 1.5mbit is not good enough IMO. (especially for £37 a month)
What are the up/down ratios like in other countries? I'm assuming they're not usually 1:1 ?

In the USA now in certain areas you can get 15Mb down and 2Mb up for $49.99 (around £28) per month. It is provided by a company who is like the BeBroadband of the United States.
In Sweden, you can pay 320 kronor (£23) per month for 100Mbit down and 10Mbit up.
I know there's a company in Hong Kong who offers gigabit symmetrical broadband for the equivalent of about £150 per month. But I can't find their website now.

If people are uploading at 100KB per second then they are on a faster upload connection than the 768kb per second they are supposed to be on (need to be at least 800kb per second). Instead they should max out at 96kb - and that's under perfect conditions in the lab! I suspect people are confusing bits & bytes...

Well, thinking about it - I wouldn't mind going back to 10 actually.
so i take it all off the traffic shaping limits are going to change lol talk about laughable
so 20mb users will get capped at 2gb, 10mb users at 1gb and 4mb or the low end at 500mb ermm excuse me but faster speeds should equal greater limits not shorter ones otherwise your faster connection isnt worth what you are paying for as your getting shaped faster.

In their FAQ's they state the M and XL tiers will not be getting any speed upgrades. It doesnt give any kind of timeline but maybe this means an 'L' upgrade is imminent? And the gap from 4mb to 20mb is ridiculous, especially given that in the past the price and speed were in-line with each other, which isnt the case anymore... So this upgrade is long overdue.
Lets hope they get it done this side of the year.
