A family member has the internet through the set top box and they have to run the cable upstairs.
Can they use a wireless router from the set top box?

You need a Cable/DSL Router (Not an ADSL Modem Router!!!), connect the Set Top Box to the WAN Port on the router, reboot the Set Top Box, and follow the steps for the provisioning
