Why are Virgin getting rid of the proxies?

Swapping proxies I used to be able to get my full bandwidth, now I'm stuck with slowish downloads etc.

Are there any proxies that work now or are they getting rid of them all?

Because they were a PITA that caused a lot of people a lot of browsing problems.

You can still manually set webcache.virginmedia.com if you want to use one.

Any hint on what ones they are ;)

I used to use Cardiff cache 1 and Belfast cache 1.

Why on earth would you want to use them? They are not transparent, they broadcast your IP in two different variable types depending on the hardware which can be easily recorded on the remote server.

Your IP is recorded anyway whenever you visit a website, proxy or not. There is little, if anything you can do to hide your IP from a remote server.

That's what I thought I said?

If a proxy improves your DL, maybe your settings need a tweak.

Or

I found that some download speeds improve and stabilise if time stamping is enabled, as well as increasing the RWIN / enabling window scaling.
