Anyone in the Wolves/Northampton/SW England areas getting 20 Meg yet? I know August is 31 days long (!) but it's interesting to know if VM have started yet. Nothing in Gloucester/Cheltenham yet.

Personally I am in no rush. My 10meg sped is near top capacity and stable. Not been shaped as yet. I see that once 20meg hits just problems.

Personally would prefer to remain as is. Speeds are fine for most news group down loads. What another 10 min when you’re on a stable link

Still on 10 meg in Northampton (NN3).

Not looking forward to 20 meg, as got a good stable connection and good speeds at the moment, from what I've read about 20 meg, I'd rather stick with what I've got.

vmuser027
10-08-2007, 16:05
Nothing here yet in Wolves. Excellent stable 10meg connection though. It was awful a few days ago but seems to have improved greatly today which makes me think they are working on things.

The speed stays at just above 10meg day and night. Great!

When the 20meg comes i hope it stays this consistent. The only thing im dreading is the traffic management!

no change here,im in paignton, just a few miles from newton abbot

ive always had steady high speeds on my connection (10mb) si i hope that the upgrade doesnt mess things up

i also heard, not sure what truth there is too it,but in the sw area they used different cableing which is far too advanced for that time(telewest days),i bet if this is true it will cause further delays :(

my vm contract ran out a few weeks back,so im waiting to see what happens before i commit to longer

service is now available in your area.

Easier way to see if your area has 20Mb: power cycle your cable modem, then log onto its 192.168.100.1 status page. Look on the config page (they're different for each modem, but you'll find it somewhere) and if you see a profile string beginning with the magical "cm-20480" or something similar to that, you're on 20mb. My profile on my modem (in Brum) before I left for holiday said something like cm-10240, and I'm on XL (waiting for the 20Mb upgrade).

If your modem has taken the new 20Mb profile, THAT is the definite proof that your area is now 20mb enabled - and if you can't get 20mb speeds, that's the time when you should be ringing VM and hollering at them. ;)

Ubr2 in wolves here. And i have had trouble from day 1.I am hoping unlike some that my problems are sorted by the upgrade.Never had a stable 10mb took them 18 months to admit
the problem with my green box being over loaded. After trying to sort the problem they made another forgot the name of the new problem.Because i took my tv and phone away they wont even give me the discount they where giving me when i had them (£20 rant over)And no upgrade as of yet.

At least 1 minute? I take the power cable out, and as soon as the LED's go off I plug it back in. As long as the modem actually restarts, that's a power cycle.

Or if you're really lazy, click the "Restart cable modem" button on the config page :)

I logged on a few minutes ago and am back up to my usual and very stable 9.8 or 9.9 meg. Is this a test of the STM I wonder? If so, then 20 meg cannot be far off.:) But if it means STM, then  We will see I suppose.

Hi,

I saw a lot of cable-laying hi-vis jackets out and about in West Wolverhampton today, one van down our street, but they'd finished what they were doing before I could ask whether they were putting in new cable for 20meg. But their presence in the area along with the maintenance notice on-line bodes well I think.

Northampton NN3 at least is getting 20Mb as of about 30 mins ago when I restarted my modem cos I lost connection.

In actual fact I'm getting about 17.5M and 720k but I'm happy its better than 10 :) .. at last.

I just hope the other problems are related to upgrade and get sorted soon.- Intermittent problems? Slow page transitions? DNS perhaps?

if they have to limit the useage,i would say about roughly 6-8gb would be better.

Download above the three about 7 ish . was capped at about 5 ish. Thhis morning all was bat to normal again so if it works out like that i have nor problems. Will set newgroups to down load in day and switch off when finished. I agree we shouyld not be capped at all but think that will have to wait until VM finaly upgrade the network.

...afterall u dont go to a 'all you can eat buffay' to be told u cant eat half of it after your first plate full.

That's a good analogy. If the cook can prepare food at a certain (limited) rate, and there are only a few people in the restaurant, everyone is happy. When the place fills with hungry customers, a limit has to be applied. And people start complaining.
