For all you PS3 owners out there.

Sony is apparently due to release version 1.9 of the PS3 firmware soon.

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/07/24/sony_preps_ps3_update/

Users will now be able to customise their XMBs to some extent (well, add photos and change the game listing)

The PS3 also gains full AVCHD support, so you'll be able to play back AVCHD files either from memory card or from your camcorder.

The PS3 will now upsample digital sound to 44.1KHz, 88.2KHz and 176.4KHz (assuming your audio connection is digital, and alll components can handle).

Finally, assuming your Bluray disks and TV support it, the PS3 can now play back video at the Cinema frame rate of 24fps.

They have probably tweaked with the backwards compatibility of games too, does anyone own a game that doesn't at least partially work now ?

Yes it is the Australian site.

The UK site doesn't seem to have been updated, however there is a thread on the UK forum from people posting that the update is available.

Updated mine when i got home, it went pretty much straight back to folding tho (after watching the simpsons trailer)
I do wish they would sort out the video app though, it seems if you escape part way through watching a video (even very near the end) it remembers where you are in the video ... which is fine until you've done it with several videos and then the almighty ps3 begins to bog down and trying to then play a game is impossible without a box reset!

updated mine :-)

i just wish sony would sort out the multimplayer issue so that 2 ppl on same machine can play others over the net, eg on resistance, grrr
