when we first got diamond media as it was back then on analogue cable, we had around 5 boxes in our house.

since moving to ntl digital we went down to 3 boxes.

using this system with 2mb broadband worked fine.

we've since ''upgraded'' and had an engineer out today to look at the poor speed of the 20mb broadband, now he's disconnected the tv boxes and said he can get the full 20mb and claims the reason is because of the splitters and boxes its reduced the signal for the BB and thats why we couldnt get the full speed.

now i find this strange as surely some people have 3 boxes + XL broad band?

and also, i managed to get a full 20mb this morning at 5am ??

any ideas?

when i get home from work i'll be able to do some speed tests for myself and see if it has actually been ''fixed'' this way.

Extra kit connected will always reduce the signal strength.
If you have extra kit they may pull down another cable to give you moe signal.

as suspected.. he hasnt fixed it.

got home, powered computer up, nothing has changed since he was here, and its 89kb/s download

thats less than 1mb.

Have you checked the Signal Levels on your Modem

hi mate, are these the power levels on the modem login?

Downstream Receive Power Level : 7.7 dBmV

Upstream transmit Power Level : 40.0 dBmV

Upstream seems OK, downstream I was told should be between +/- 5dBmV
