View Full Version : WoW problems resurfacing?

Some of you will recall a while back there were some significant issues trying to play WoW from a variety of different NTL/VM locations. Think it came up around the time the rebranding happened, went on for a couple of weeks.

The problem was eventually fixed but seems to have "unfixed" itself in the last 24 hours or so. Any fellow WoW players experiencing problems these past couple of days?

If you're referring to the Telia servers used with WoW then what I can contribute to the conversation is that Warcraft III tonight was unplayable (Warcraft III uses the same servers and I had lag and disconnection issues at the exact same time when people reported having issues with WoW on NTL).
However I can see a whole bunch of problems on the service status page on today's date so this might be unrelated (having said that normal browsing feels fine).

Yep- last night and today have been terrible for lag and ping times. Just now got kicked completely as connection dropped. Not happy at all- pre virgin media ntl was fabulous - literally from the day they changed it went downhill... worse period was when I coudn't stay connected for barely 5 minutes. Also webbrowsing is affected- should go back to my blinking dial up modem.. :(

I really wish people would stop trying to draw implied significance from the change from NTL to VM. All they did was change the name over the door, the network is exactly the same now as it ever was. Your problems may well be caused by your ISP, but it would make no difference whether they were called NTL, CableTel, Virgin Media or anything else you could dream up.

So it was just a wild coincidence that the two happened at the same time?

I was within a hairs breadth of dumping virgin after it happened. Before then I'd been a happy ntl customer for about a year with not one hiccup or disconnect or speed issue. The name changes and that week onwards for about a month I suffer the worst ever connection problems ever experienced. How exactly as a customer am I supposed to not think "hmm maybe there is a connection??"

Also looking above and also those posting about problems in Portsmouth again confirms to me that yet again something is going on that is giving me a crap connection again. It's been pretty rubbish for browsing for about a month now with having to refresh a few times for it to work but the last few days it's sunk to an all time low... Just waiting for it to get to the point where it now dumps me every 5 minutes.. can't wait to relive that experience...

Yes.

I don't suppose you can tell me what the current broadband service status is on virgin medias / ntlworlds website is because at the moment all I get is

The connection has timed out

The server at redirect.virginmedia.com is taking too long to respond.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

The bbc and other websites are working... so it implies it's virgins site or network...

Sorry, that was not my intention. I merely used it as a reference point for the time when it happened last.

Thanks Chris.

I've been playing WOW in the UK pretty much since it launched.

I can say from experience that the perceived Lag / Latency problems have nothing at all to do with the name change from ntl, ntl-Telewest, Virgin Media. The network has largely gone unchanged from a physical point of view, although its support within the new company may have changed.

So if its a Virgin Media problem, its the Virgin Media network, if its a fault, then its a new fault, and has nothing to do with the change in name.

Move on people, please.

i beg to disagree about the same time or really close to the time they rebranded to virgin media i also noticed that my once proud connection went diabolical and it still is out of every week there is at least 2-5 days where it is affected before the name change it was fine so if a few others noticed this what does it tell you ohh sorry i forgot where the liars who deserve to have a poor connection and just whinging on this forum in the 0.000001% chance that someone will listen, do you think i like paying premium rate while adsl users get a more stable connection.

ADSL get more stable connections??

I suggest you read the latest WoW Technical forum post about the largest ADSL supplier in the UK, I'll not link it here, if you are a wow player you will know where to look.

No-one is calling you, or any other VM user A liar, but its getting very thin this name change argument. The problems have always been there, what has changed is the level of complaints, just as they did when Virgin bought a rail network. The service did not change on dayy one, but the complaints went up by about 300% just because it ws Virgin.

its got nothing to do with the name change belive they could call themselves anything they wanted but like i say if me and other users noticed this huge increase in latency and line degredation after the name change they must have changed something, why would people just start moaning because they had called themselves virgin (the brand name isnt a disaster or is it off putting) people have noticed a huge performance hit and i even noticed it tailing off before the 10mb upgrade.

This is what has happened to my products since the name change to Virgin Media.
