Funny enough I was going to start a similar thread last night. I'm in Belfast as well and up to about last Wed I my speeds were all over the place on 20 meg getting around 6 but since then they have been pretty good, and not to bad either during peak/traffic shaping times.

Here's hoping!

Mine there now....

Still nothing here - I hope I don't end up being alone with this problem! Especially as some live almost on my doorstep yet I am STILL only getting 800k at most.

The irony of VM's full page ad in the papers this morning "beware with ADSL as you may not get the speed you pay for", yeah right, you b******s.

Edit: at 11:14 I'm getting anything from 600-800k download speed off usenet - sigh. My biggest worry is that those who get sorted get less vocal and the few of use with problems become a lone voice.

I was getting dire speeds since the 20Meg 'upgrade' (Manchester area) at end of June.

Last few days have been excellent. getting 750-790kbs downloads even on P2P.

About bloody time!!

Ooooooh, I'm crapping it from 20meg.

I'm still on 10 meg and I'm getting updated this month. If anything like that happens then I'm offski to BE. Luckily I have a Motorola Surfboard 5100 which rules out the crappy modem problems some are having.

I'm the exact same as you used to be Bill. 24/7 full 10meg speeds. Always 1,260kb/s. You must be gutted m8 but just hope that things will get better soon. Virgin can't get away with it too long before everybody starts to learn and not just the forum goers. It will become general knowledge that Virgin broadband is hit and miss and people will just opt for what will give them a decent service. I can't see the men in power not foreseeing this so either Virgin are trying to get as much money from us before they go **** up or there is actual plans to give people a decent service  someday................... .

It took me 3 attempts to get my call answered on the premium line to India today so either there are fewer staff on duty or Virgin are raking it in.

Overall Average Speed = approx 10948 Kbps, 10.69 Mbps

I don't at all mind the concept of shaping (the daily limit could be a little highet than 3gb) but when they shape and my connection is half of what it should be, then what's the point?

How far away from your exchange are you?.

I'm under a quarter mile from mine so if 20meg suffers then I'm off. 22.8Meg connection my m8 is getting from BE and he is just a few houses away from mine.

BT ADSL broadband availability
You are connected to the Warrington (http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange.php?ecode=LVWAR) telephone exchange.

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2007/10/14.gifADSL is available in your area
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2007/10/14.gifYour exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.

Standard ADSL RAG results:
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2007/10/14.gifYou can receive 2Mbps ADSL
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2007/10/14.gifYou can receive 1Mbps ADSL
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2007/10/14.gifYou can receive 512Kbps ADSL
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2007/10/14.gifYou can receive 256Kbps ADSL
You are approximately 1.53km from the exchange (straight line distance).

Bill, if you can get such a great connection to the BE enabled exchange I can't understand why you're still with VM, under those circumstances VM looks poor value to anyone even taking BT line rental into consideration. Obviously this excludes retention and employee discounts in the calculation.
Had I been a little closer to the exchange I'd have switched a long time ago, as it stands I'd get 8meg~ if I was lucky due to distance.

Until i was upgraded  to 20 meg my connection was fine. Then i got the dreaded upgrade and its all been downhill from there.

From tomorrow they will be on 30 days to fix or i will reconsider my supplier. Even if i do work for them :Yikes:

This is with traffic shaping in place (i havent downloaded anything today, just for the record).

Without i can hit 20mbit just fine....though it's not as stable as the faithful 10mbit....-sigh-

Mind you i have Be ADSL as well and i get a steady 21mbit (im only 200 metres from the exchange) would be higher but i sacraficed abit of speed to get the 2.5mbit upload.

Edit : Torrent shaping has been going on here as well (encrpytion doesnt work)

here's an example..i get this on every single torrent ive tried.

upgrade had nothing to do with it, i was seeing those speeds to those speed tests before the upgrade. when i get <0.5mb to those speed tests i can still hit 10mb+ to most (if not all) of the sourceforge (for example) european mirrors.

i thought you knew better than to rely on speed tests bill?

Well i started the ball rolling with the abysmal service i have been getting, No internet since Friday and this has been posted by a dial-up service i have had to create.
Just a snippet from the letter to the advertising standards:-

The company advertise that they use the latest fiber optical
technology that gives no drop in speed. i have been with this company for quite a few years now and since virgin media took over NTL i have had nothing but trouble, Since February this year i have complained and complained about the connection speed and packet loss i have been getting, As my son and i do a lot of online gaming it is unacceptable to be disconnected from so many games either for ridiculously slow internet speed or from packet loss, The line is supposed to be a 20meg line and i have been getting speeds as slow as 250kb, a speed i would have expected on an old basic DSL line. this situation has now become totally unacceptable.

Lets see if it prods them into action so i can get at least a stable connection.
4meg stable is better than a so called 20meg connection that drops out or down to a quarter of a meg every day.
:td::td::td::td: to ntl / virgin media whatever they want to call themselves now.

I am not depending on them. I also have my ipcop traffic graphs as well

I cannot be arsed to do screen dumps of my ftp, newsgroup and pretty much everything else speeds to show on here. The traffic shaping is automatically on for me it starts bang on 16.00 and goes on till 23.00.

Game playing is a nono after 16.00 and even her who must be obeyed has noticed how much like dial up it is.:Yikes:

I will be giving the required 30 days today to disconnections and then that is how long they have to fix it or i will go else where. I have left cable broadband before when it went **** i can do it again now its gone **** again.
