Any help ors suggestion is welcome!!!
Thanks in advance!!!
Cant even get 10 mb since i got my upgrade :(
Are you connecting through a router? If so, check the network interface (link speed) on it, it sounds like it could be only 10Mbps.
If you're not, I have no clue.

just making sure, are you positive that is for the router->modem not router->pc?
practically all routers will do 100mb to the PCs but not all do 100mb to the modem, what router do you have?
Same problem here, Linksys WRT54GL flashed with DD-WRT v23 SP3 and Ambit 250.

thats your LAN connection, doesnt mean your WAN port is running at that speed
what model router?

wired or wireless?
i have a wrt54gsuk default firmware and a belkin 54wireless card and see about 14meg at peak
wired or wireless?
Wired OFC, I had a 54GSUK too but I upgraded to 54GL. Its not a router problem nor a computer problem, purely some **** up with them capping me at a 10Mbps speed even though the modem is showing a 20Mbps config file.

try http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe
What does your modem config page actually say.

I'm stuck at 10 as well, I've got a belkin router and if I connect wireless I only get 5.2 meg. If I connect to the router with a cable I get 10 and if I connect direct to the cable modem I also get 10!
are you on 20meg? what does your modem config say ?

This may sound like a silly question, but how do you check your modem config?

Browse to http://192.168.100.1/ and login with Username: root Password root then click on Operation Config. You'll see a bit that tells you your speeds. Mine says:
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 768000
Which is 20Mb down, 768kb up.

I browsed to that address and it took me to 'Configuration Manager' but there's no option to log into anything and I cant see anything that refers to Operation Config!

What Linux Live CD do you recommend?

It might depend on which modem you have. I've got a blue ntl:250 (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/141/ntl-release-new-broadband-modem). It may be different if you have a newer VM branded one.

I've got a Motorola sb4200 surfboard modem. That address took me to the surfboard configuration manager page but I could'nt find any thing that showed my speeds.

That's an old modem, I've never had one. The first one I got was a silver 100 (still got it lol) when I originally got 128k after going from their dial-up.

According to VM's website it's fine for 20meg, and according to customer services my area has been upgraded.

When I noticed that my area had been upgraded, I checked my modem's config and it still said 10Mb. I rebooted it and it was then 20Mb.

To reboot it, do you just need to switch it off and then back on again?
I'm having the same issue, I had 20mb after I re-booted my modem (old silver NTL...150 I think)
then 5 mins later dropped to 10-12mb again.
followed all steps in this thread and still not working

Even if you could prove the config on that modem is 20meg, I can assure you it will not handle it. Its to old. ;)

So how do I get around that then? because VM insist my modem is fine!

Then its time for the modem to have an "accident" ;)

Hmm ;) :naughty:
Hmm ;) :naughty:
To be honest, your make and model of modem had problems when 10meg was rolled out, so god knows why VM think its acceptable to force 20meg down the ruddy things...
