Hi guys,

I've was upgraded to 20meg about 2 weeks ago in the Reading area. The problem is I still seem to be maxing out at 10meg speed, the upload speeds are fine (80kb/s), its just the download speed. I have reset the modem and router (linksys wrt54g), but dont know what else to do.

Or should I just stop complaining as its a good speed anyway, compared to alot of other people?

Does your modem say you are on 20mb?

What Windows system you on?

I've had the same problem here in Grimsby the last few days as well. Upload speeds have been great but my download speed never seems to get above 10 or 11mb speeds. Strange really as I was getting pristine 20mb prior to this happening. I read about there being some sort of dual docsis thing being done where half the area runs on a different frequency so I'm hoping in my case that fixes it.

which firmware are you running on your Linksys?

Same here, 20mb on the Winnersh Exchange. Good upload speed, rubbish download; most of the time can't get more than 8-10mb download. If I use bittorrent then as soon as I hit around 800kb download speed the modem disconnects & reboots itself.

On winxp, ambit 120 modem and Linksys WRT54GS (wired) using DD-WRT V23 sp2.

I did a quick test last night and I do appear to have a problem with my router. (WRT-54GS & GL)

Going wired throught the router my max speed is now around 1.4MB/s after using the tcp optimiser. If connect the pc directly to the modem my speed increases to 1.9MB/s.

I test this with both my wrt54GS's and my WRT54GL, all are running DD-WRT V23 sp2.

So my speed problems appear to be caused by my router and the disconnects are probably caused by the modem.

depends on whatspeed your connecting wireless to the router aswell, the wireless probably doesn have enough strength or speed to sustain the speed

You could try running dd-wrt sp3, it's in beta but I've had zero problems with it for months (I have a wrt54gs v5) and it's been much better than sp2. I can also hit full speed through it (provided I disable QOS).
